this is another favorite of mine, the optimus something. power house burns coleman gas, also have a isobutane adaptor for it too, it's a little heavy but fuel lasts a long time and it can cook up big pots of stuff.[IMG]

Nice spot for my lunchbreak, noodles, roasted chestnuts (found on my way here) and some fresh gingerroot tea. On the Firebox nano, wood processed with the Opinel 12 saw and the Roga scandi knife.

A few strikes with my flint and steel, then insert the glowing charcloth from the side ... blow until the woodcurls in the middle ignite...

And... we have a flame, YAY! :D
Now the waiting begins... water is on...

Chestnuts roasting after my water came to a boil. Noodles and tea soaking.

    Another outdoors lunch today.
Brought the Kelly Kettle and the Esee 4 to make coffee, fry some bacon, eggs and tomato to go on some nice thick sandwiches.
Love moments like this, so peacefully and it clears my mind. :)

After preparing my firewood with the Esee 4 I put on the kettle first for some coffee.
Flint and steel to get it lit.
This gives me a nice layers of coals that'll ignite the rest of the wood when I put my pan on.
Also gives my coffee time to cool off while I prepare the food.
Time to get my bacon done, this is the best part. The smell is delicious. :D
    [IMG]

Next up, 2 eggs with some salt and pepper.

Then the tomatoes, took longer than I thought.
Next time I'll do the eggs in the end so they're warmer.
The tomatoes stay hot forever anyway.

    And ready to eat.
    Tasty stuff. :D

After loads of rain last couple of days I quickly went out for an outdoors coffee with the Kelly Kettle and the Esee 6
Made some kindling and a featherstick to light with my ferrorod

transfering the flame to tinder/kindling filled base of the kettle

Now I just wait patiently a put in an extra stick every now and then, love it when flames shoot out of the chimney :p
    [IMG]

And we have a boil, kettle is whistling loud :D

Now, time to enjoy my coffee

    Tea time today
Opinel 12 saw to make some chunks of birch and poplar
    [IMG]

BK9 to split it into tiny bits of kindling
    [IMG]

Nice spot I knew about but never had a break there before.
The Core 4 stove in a minimal setup, just 3 walls and the perforated triangulare baseplate.
(To compensate the big knife :D
    [IMG]

The tiny BK13 that lives in the sheath of the 9 cut up my gingerroot for tea
    [IMG]

Put the kettle on and wait ... tough times here ;)

Forgot to pack a mug, so drank straight from the kettle :p
    [IMG]

Tossed in the last bits of wood and enjoyed the view

I spent all day outdoors, from 0530 till after 6pm. Sometime early afternoon the stomach says “empty” very very loudly. :)

Time for a little Trangia majik..

    20231104_130027.jpeg
I pulled this from the Last Ditch collection. I’ve always carried 1 of the hd package meals in my kit just in case…
I decided to start trying them out for flavor and content.

Do a food critique. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday eh?

The Food Report: “Edible” is about the best rating I can give this. It was marginally better than the Jamaican Jerk Chicken but not by much. Despite cutting the instructional water amount by a full 1/4 cup and letting it sit (steep?) for a full 30 minutes it was still very watery/soupy. Again the most prevalent flavors were salty and black pepper. The addition of the peanuts and peanut butter did absolutely nothing. This is another one I wouldn’t recommend unless you are really really in a live or die survival situation.

    Nice pics.
Nothing better than fresh food when it comes to taste. Dried food packs up easier though :)
Those seasoned gnocci do look tasty in the oackaging, did you try those too?

Those were peanuts my friend. They were really the only texture in the meal. I’m definitely going with a different methodology in my walking diet. The only thing these offer is low moisture/ lightweight and long shelf life.
The actual eating experience was pretty low on satisfaction.
Still, A day outside is better than inside anytime. Right?
