Any day where you get to use a Ghillie Kettle is a good day!

Practiced my woods fire cooking skills in the backyard today.
Spinach fritters on the Kelly Kettle hobo stove.
Mora Kansbol helping out for the knife tasks, mostly wood processing :)

Filled the stove in Swedish torch style, resulted in suffocating my flames :(
Next time I'll try another way, what I liked about this way, I could bake for 30 minutes without refueling!

Made an English breakfast for dinner tonight to start the weekend upload_2023-9-1_20-36-3.gif
Out to my favorite spot by the river.

First prepared firewood and get a fire going in the MSP Core 4 stove

Starting out with boiling about 500ml water for some tea, rooibos for some relaxation upload_2023-9-1_20-36-3.gif
    [IMG]

Next step, heating up my beans, a can of 400 grams
    [IMG]

Fry an egg, sunny side up upload_2023-9-1_20-36-3.gif Pepper and salt added for extra taste
    [IMG]

Now it's time to heat up a hand full of mini tomatoes for a few minutes until they're hot and soft.

Spicy sausages to make it complete, fried a couple of minutes er side
    [IMG]

Toast a couple of sandwiches, careful not to get them all black upload_2023-9-1_20-36-3.gif
    [IMG]

    And ready to eat upload_2023-9-1_20-36-3.gif

I have a cheap butane stove (that everyone probably has) in the TLC but I am sick of the abysmal performance in cold weather !! I started shopping around for something similar that was better quality and ran of propane etc. Found the Jetboil Basecamp models but the $500plus price tag changed my mind. I have a single burner Companion on the way now that runs on small bottle of propane but with an additional hose can also run of the same larger refillable bottles my fridge does. It was cheap enough that if it's garbage I wont be heartbroken.

I gave in, ordered new stove...
Thought I had ordered the Ti version... ended up receiving the stainless.
*sigh* my bad... fired it up anyway to forget about my mistake quickly.

Lunch with fried eggs and some tea on its first burn

I was going to ask him the same thing. ;). I’ve considered one as a super compact addition to my alcohol stove set up.

have the TI version, it is awesome in the case so compact. i use the alcohol stove and the gas modded burner as well as wood, multi purpose made me pull the trigger. the firebox nano for the win if light weight is your thing, oh and firebox has great customer support too, I have a salt pepper shaker from them if failed they are sending a replacement.

Sick of the cheap butane stove being such a pain in the rear in cold weather. Looked for a single burner model that would hook to a normal bottle but in looking found this...

$34 delivered. Runs off a $9 disposable propane bottle of 469gms capacity. Factory spec says it burns 104gms per hour. 5000BTU (so not the scorcher some are).

Unpacked it today, comes with a serviceable soft case...

Hooked it up and boiled 1 litre of cold water in a billy with a lid, took 11mins to a rolling boil (so not brilliant) and burned 13gms of gas.

It is just large enough that my usual cast iron pan sits centred and is NOT touching the bottle......

Did myself small vegan ;) lunch to see. ...

....two things from that, needed to give it a little more time to heat the steel and it needs wind protection (no surprise for anyone in that I am sure). Down the side of the house there acts as a natural wind tunnel and today was more windy than usual. I will pack a shield for it. Start to finish that meal used 20gms of gas.

All in all I am happy enough. The test will be cooking early morning in the cold at the times the butane stove is most annoying. I ONLY want this to reside in the back of the TLC for my overnighters. I have smaller stoves for the pack and a larger dual burner jobby that is fine (but larger and heavier) that is great if setting up somewhere for beyond a weekend trip or with a few people. More often than not I am alone. One of those bottles will last a good few trips if the burn rate stays about the same. We shall see.

Haven't really hiked for years now. Have had health issues since I nearly died of COVID in '20.
