They are a very interesting looking knife but way overhyped in my opinion. It is just not efficient for tasks outdoors.

Agree with you. This is a "banger" prototype that @Sam Wilson did so it doesn't have the refined guard and has been used quite a bit. As I have said before, people often question my interest in these knives. Doesn't bother me at all. I have been laughed at before and told that the Glock was a piece of junk and nobody in LE would ever consider it or you couldn't hunt with an AR platform rifle, etc.

The point that I think is missed with these knives is that they are not a fantasy prop just for pretty pictures. We hope that we are geared up all of the time, but realistically, things happen when you least expect it. It is really handy to have some fire starting capabilities that are guaranteed to be dry, some meds if you need them, an extra $20.00 on your person and so forth.

Interesting story that coincides with this post. My son had made several cedar hearth boards and burned through them with little success. Everything is drenched around here at the moment. He took the wax cloth out of the HH and was able to sustain an ember fairly quickly even though he considered it cheating. The "take home" is, having a back-up plan is never a bad idea in any situation.

Hate to say it but i would have laughed at you too with these knives as some of them are junk knives.

Got a pill vial full of PJCB. Having a few doses of allergy, NSAIDS, medicine stuff aint a bad idea though so thank you for that.

Further off topic, but it struck me as odd the feeling of cheating myself using a ferro rod the other day. How far things have come where i would struggle with a ferro rod and cheat with a lighter. There are some folks id imagine that couldn't start a fire with a running torch and diesel fuel.

Copy that. I made it a habit to carry a vial of Epi with a rubber overwrap in my 18 when hiking with new folks due to scrambling to locate the ampules in my pack one time. My FAK is organized, but having a filter needle, syringe, and meds ready to go in a life-threatening situation is nice. In this case I don't need all that other stuff like fishhooks, challenge coins, and bailing twine in the handle.:D

I love building fires but am not that passionate as an adult regarding primitive skills unless it is shelter construction. I worked too hard as a kid with limited resources to do that stuff for fun:)

I am all about dual uses with gear. One thing you might want to try instead of the PJCB is some tube gauze with PJ. Burns well and instantly with a Ferro plus you can use it for finger injuries, lashing material, wound packing retention, etc.

That's how a knife should look in the field, well used. Nice shot.
