If this needs to be merged into the fire thread that's cool. I've really been intrigued by friction fire for awhile now and starting with Andris gifting me a bow drill set at the first gathering I've been working at it. Admittedly I've went months without picking it up on a few occasions. However, of late I've been a bit more diligent on bow and hand drill practice, and today I finally got it. This was a quick practice session at home on lunch. I'm glad I decided to make the quick drive home and didn't go out for lunch. I was using a box elder board with the much-shortened version of the pine spindle that Andris gave me. Also integral to the process was the bearing block from Andris and a willow bow I made a few weeks ago. Now I just have to perfect my technique, or in reality strive for continuous improvement, and also get to work on my first hand drill ember. Post up your friction fire practice whether successes or failures, we learn from both.
