    Actually, the kit from the Gathering in your OP pic was cedar on cedar, with an oak bearing block.

    I was gonna start working on friction fire this next weekend. I'm not entirely sure what to use in the pacific north west. I assume cedar will work. Anyone have any pointers?

    Tried hand drill again this evening. Local pithy weed and yucca on cedar.

    Shew... gotta get back at it. Work will slow down in a couple of weeks and my evenings will clear up. It's time to get back at it.
