Where were you today?

My back is really hurting for some reason but I managed to air down the tires and ride up on the mountain above the house for a little while today.

I hobbled down the trail a little when the road ended and sat beside this little mountain top pond for a couple hours.

I heard some stuff about Davey Crocket, when traveling the back country in cold weather, just building a very small fire between this legs and wrapping his coat around it to sleep, leaned up against a tree.

I decided to test managing one of these small fires with just little sticks and kept nice and warm for a couple hours while resting against a pine and watching the sun drift through the clouds.





Before I started it, I picked up a couple discarded bottles and filled them with water to help me manage the fire as it's pretty dry here and I don't want to burn the county down.

Then I talked to some friends on the local repeater a bit and enjoyed some quiet time.

Today went to the Forks of Coal State Natural Area and Wildlife Center, Alum Creek, WV. Also some hiking trails around the property.

PS, The U.S. Flag was a nice touch.

 

There's a story behind that abandonded motorcycle. Something about the rider was getting frustrated that he kept getting stuck or other problems, and just said screw it, left the bike, walked home and got drunk.
The last race was in 1993, so it's been there atleast that long. Honda XL250

Went hiking this weekend, Canaan Valley, WV.
Hiked to Bearden Rocks. Had the drone up a bit, until I heard thunder. I was the tallest thing around, so I headed back down.

Pics don't do this valley justice. Red Creek flows through the middle. Lots of Beaver ponds. Altered the trail routes in a few places.

Dobbins Trail. This was just a creek crossing a few years ago. Beavers dammed the creek up. Changed the trail, had to cross the Dam.

 

and why are you not retrieving that very cool old skool bike, tearing it down , rebuilding and riding it??

 

Someone would have to push that bike through about 2 miles of rough terrain.
Looks cooler abandoned in the pine thicket haha.

 

Beautiful scenery you shot. It was wise to get out of harms way when you noticed the storm coming.
