I feel lucky and privileged to be able to take part in the worldwide passaround of the Shirogorov F95NL
It's been traveling the word for over a year now and I'm stoked that it arrived safe in my home.
Here's what I documented on day 1 in of the F95NL worldtour in the Netherlands
No serious action yet, just some admiring and comparisons.
First thoughts when I unpacked the knife:
- wow, it's bigger than I thought. (only Shiro I ever handled is my Neon)
- man I love the super beautiful Micarta / Ti combi.
- omg that's a lot of blade in a compact package.
- I can't believe this knife has traveled the world and was used seriously, it looks untouched!
- It's not mine, don't get emotionally attached, it's only here temporary
Took some quick 'glamour' shots to capture the excellent state it's in:
It rides a little high for my taste clipped to the pocked, but I prefer tossing it inside my pockets without clip anyway.
So now that's out of the way....
Next I was holding it against some of my favorite folders.
My Neon feels refined and delicate against the more brutal size, weight and loud click flipping it open of the F95NL.
Two very different breeds.
Most remarkable to me is that the F95NL is in a package comparable in size with the Spyderco PM2, (a knife many people own so you get and idea of the size).
But opened up, the blade it packs is similar to the size of the full size Military.
Sorry for the lousy focus of these pics
Feeling the urge to cut something up, I decide it's time to kill an apple
It didn't stand a chance against the crispy sharp Elmax.
That's it for today... to be continued
Turns out I wasn't done for the day yet...
Kitchen duty for the F95NL also on day 1
Chopping up vegies and meat
Sliced my tomatos thin enough? Love the Elmax edge.
oops, wrong thread!
My Steven Spielberg aspirations practiced with the 95NL while it's my guest.
As it's marketed as an outdoor folders some fire preparations are shown.
Feather sticks and scraping birch bark to catch a spark from my firesteel.
To be continued
Its a passaround for the Shorogorov
Dang it. I was hoping you were going on a world tour.
Great idea.... But unfortunately not
The NL95 making some wood curls in various thickness for firestarting.
The knife makes me smile every time I open it up such a smooth beauty.
Nice to see loads of lovemarks on that Sebenza scales!
The 95NL is still making me smile every day.
Gave the Elmax a little bit of chemical torture cutting up load of lemoins and other fruits for tea and in my Weissen beers
No sign of anything on the Elmax blade.
Gonna give it a good strop later today to bring the sharpness to it's best again.
Some more shots from the NL taken over the last few days while it's still my guest
Loving every day with the beauty.
Fall is coming, mushroom time
Somehow the knife seems to shrink more and more every time I use it.
When it first arrived my thought were it's kind of big for my taste.
Now I think it's closer and closer to an ideal size.
