Hopefully found part #1 for a Shop Anvil.. Currently about 21 inches and 74 pounds. Local Metal recycling places cannot buy RailRoad tracks. So this was a rare find
I think the pictures make it look bigger than it really is. I will have to get some measurements when i get a chance. There are some very old still operating rail yards around so who knows what it actually was used for. The fact it is painted on all sides including the ends is a little weird to me. I am planning on burning off the paint and see what i find.
I was curious earlier and looked up rail sizes. I found a place with a chart showing rails from 12 to 155# per yard. I'm guessing your piece is 100+ per yard.
Picked up a 24oz Grayl for my everyday cup and to use outdoors. They had a labor day sale where you get a free filter with a cup. So far I like it.
@ASH It was a little hard getting pictures in the dark but they are clear enough. Using a chart i found online it appears to be a section of 127 LBS Dudley rail. (127lbs per yard) There is apparently A LOT out there about specific types of railroad rails. From what I understand is that it is a pre 1950 made rail piece (Holes in the center were used to save steel during WW2). That was made for the New York Central Railroad company. Most of this type was collected and rebuilt by re welding / removing the holes. Which made them something like a 131lbs rail. Or reworked into a "Modified 127lbs Dudley" What is also cool is that the rail likely contains added copper which was added to increase durability and corrosion resistance. During that time heavily salted ice was used to transport frozen meat over long distances and the melting salt ice would damage the tracks they used if they did not add copper. Big picture is that there is a bunch of cool details but it is still getting made into a Anvil ( A higher corrosion resistance anvil )
I bought a 120 lbs base plate for my anvil project from the scrap yard. Only $25 for the plate and a small sledge hammer head.
My gf gave me this beautiful cast iron cook set for our 18th anniversary! Now to season it and get cooking
It looks like a safe queen all shiny and new... We want to see the user photos Make sure to post some pictures of what you're cooking once you have a chance to get out and use it!
Just ordered a set of upgraded front and rear door seals for my Landcruiser. Apparently they have a significant impact on wind/cabin noise. Given the design on my truck from the factory has not changed since 1985 (earlier really) they will hopefully make a difference.
I've fallen into the RC Crawler pit pretty deep. Daughter got me the first one in 2023 for Christmas and is been downhill ever since. Working on this TRX4M K10. Bought shocks to lower it and Injora white wagon wheels with RC4WD Patagonia tires to make it look more scale and less monster truck.
