I wasn't happy with the fit of the scales on the Bear and Sons knife that my dad gave me probably around 2016. That's the date on the blade anyway and seems about right. I knocked the bulk off with a belt sander and a 100 grit sanding block followed by a red Scotch Brite. I tried a 180 grit block first, but decided to speed up some trouble spots with the 100.

The Schrade belongs to my neighbor, but I like it. I brought it home the other day to sharpen it for him. I ground a sharpening choil because it had a funky grind. I ran it across a 400, then 800 grit belt a few times. I hand finished it ceramic rod that I found in a old bait store years ago, and a bare leather strop.

I have a Schrade just like your neighbors. I like mine as is but I suppose a choil would be nice as well. Mine is a U.S. made model so I keep it original.

Someone had did a poor job of sharpening this one with a power tool. The choil got rid of most of the ugliness. I also smoothed out a hotspot in the factory choil.

I wouldn't have bothered with sharpening it if it wasn't a old USA made model.

I really like both the blade shape and handle shape/length on the middle one. Maker and model?

That’s a CJRB FUGLY. Loving it so far. Modern day swayback.
