I got asked to go over my fire kit on another forum. So here it is, this kit lives in my bag I have other smaller kits that go with if I'm not carrying a bag but this is the main one. The pouch is a Maxpedition fatty; Left side Ferro rod and striker Fat wood Yucca stalk for bow drill Original leatherman (because pliers are always handy) Fresnel lens in back pouch Little yellow thing at the top is a contractor pencil sharpener Right side Green container is pj cotton balls Box lighter Flint and steel kit Pocket bellows Microstream light Fire cord and utility cord Exotac match safe with UCO matches Mini refillable lighter Duct tape in back of pouch Flint and steel kit Esee fire steel also a bow drill socket Jute twine Tinder tabs Flint and chert pieces Char cloth under jute twine Small piece of fat wood I tried to cover all the bases let me know if you have any thoughts comments or critiques.
C This kit has worked several times when conditions were near shtf. I will be adding a pocket bellows and the Esee striker now.
Yikes. These make my firekit look weak. UCO storm matches Two bic lighters Esee advanced firekit filled with tinder tabs and with scraper and Fatwood on lanyard. I only use the UCO matches it seems like.
Made up a kit some time back just to say I had one. I usually carry Bic lighters and birthday candles, but they don't look nearly as good in a picture as a hand-forged striker....
Gotta love the maxpedition fatty pouch! Here's my set up. In the left back pouch is my poncho and extra drinking bags, in the right back pouch is a first aid kit and the rest you can see. Couple of lighters, couple Ferro rods, homemade striker, fishing kit, green light flashlight, extra magazine, Vaseline cottonballs.. then the bk14 in the front pouch.
