    Got a new Fiskars X5
As it freezing here this week this was a good excuse to test it out in the backyard for a little fire

I’m not a hatched guy (yet) so I need more practice, but a great first impression.
Nice grip, plenty sharp for curls to get my fire started, and decent splitting power.

    I had fun :D

Would be nice to see some pics of the axes, hatchets or hawks you guys use :)

I prefer a boy's axe for general use. To me a hatchet is a specialized tool, it's a poor substitute for most tasks. It's better than nothing though.

I used the West Germany marked axe head that I found lying at the base of a tree and hung on a boy's axe handle, to limb the tree that fell yesterday.

Fiskars makes good cutting axes, the plastic handles just feel like trash. It's not nearly as noticable on the small hatchets, the full size axes like the splitting axe I have feel horrible compared to wood.

This dinosaur slayer goes with me anywhere there’s no trail. Fully capable of digging a hole in the dry packed clay at the bottom of hades.

Long enough to let you take advantage of velocity to get the best work out of the small head.

Nigh indestructible 80CRv2 steel in a full tang format. Dont bother being nice to it. ;)

That looks like the forerunner of the Mora Foraging axe. Is it good?

    Solid handle or hollow?

Yes, yes, and the handle is solid, i think its Zytel. It works really well for small game processing. It could also work as a smaller axe weapon. The handle is very ergonomic.

I wouldn't use it on wood too much because I'm not sure what stainless steel it is, plus it's a bit light. I must have bought it new in late 80s or early 90s.

My CRK&T Berserker Axe, cause I've got Scandinavian ancestry and I've always liked/preferred axes over swords.

Definitely don’t use axes all to often in the Sonoran Desert. These are a few that I got though. A0F60671-E94C-4C98-AB53-D744CB47A015.jpeg

That one made from a wrench would be a handy forage tool. Maybe trim the wrench end to get a more manageable length and balance point…

I’ve honestly been thinking on cutting off the ring. This may be the catalyst for getting it done.

I finally got a couple pics. Split a little wood for the stove this morning. I was going to oil the handle on my old CT hatchet, but I can't find my blo.

I've got choppers stashed everywhere. I really like the old green surplus swedish army axes. They used to be really cheap and they are my preferred size for general use. This thread got me motivated to make a new mask for the wrench hawk. I had a junk bit of kydex on it, so I decided on something leather this time around instead. Not perfect, but a sight better.
