Depends upon its intended use. I prefer a fixed blade for EDC... good old Izula works for me. You probably need several of both.
The best folder starts life as a broken fixed blade. That being said, there are high quality folders that are stronger than poorly made fixed blades. "Better" is too subjective. "Most appropriate for ....." is probably the question you should be asking. You'll get tons of answers here, I'm sure.
Folders are convenient to carry, and with one hand opening they are easy to deploy too, you won't have anything as strong as a fixed blade though. Folders can offer multiple blades of different shapes in the case of a traditional slipjoint, which can be very useful if you need those blades for craft work like carving or leathercraft. SAK's offer multiple tools besides just a knife, and multiple blades also on some models. It's also worth noting that in more populated areas it's sometimes more acceptable to carry a folder. Fixed blades are inherently stronger, don't need to be opened before use, and are the only practical option for larger blades, if you like to use the knife for food prep a fixed blade is also easier to clean. They require a sheath for safe carry though, and some do not come with a good one, carrying a fixed blade in a poor sheath can be uncomfortable, make it hard to access, and even be somewhat dangerous, so the sheath is an important factor to consider if you choose a fixed blade, either choose a knife with a good sheath included or be willing to purchase a good one aftermarket.
Yes, I agree. Fixed blades make for perfect outdoor companions. They can perform tasks that are invaluable in the wild, such as chopping, prying, digging, hammering, and hunting. Also, they are relatively cheaper than folding knives and require little effort to clean. I found knife, Which Really like to buy.
