Great two mile hike. Some up, some down, rocks and roots, covered in autumn leaves. Three small falls, limestone rock walls, and cave niches. 20221023_125518.jpg 20221023_135442.jpg 20221023_121230.jpg 20221023_122237.jpg 20221023_122824.jpg 20221023_125910.jpg 20221023_130646.jpg 20221023_131101.jpg 20221023_134216.jpg

I like those milage marker tags.
Makes it easy to tell SAR etc exactly where you are.

I get that for injuries but is a person really lost if the sign tells you where you are? Maybe it's a man thing but 911 is the last number I'm calling if I'm really lost, all less embarrassing numbers would be tried first.

Most places I go where I could get lost you can’t get cell service to dial 911, it’s either a SPOT locator beacon or you make a sheeitload of noise in the “hope” someone can hear you. I put hope in quotation marks cause floating marsh and the vast amount of standing dead trees seem to absorb sounds really well.

I've only found a few small areas that that could get enough signal to call but no data, most of that in the Ozarks. Most times I could function on text long after the other services were gone.

I was thinking it would be useful for less experienced hikers.

I can definitely see that aspect.

Us off trail types go into stuff where we can’t find our arse with both hands lol
