As a means of defense carry I totally agree with you, but I'm glad our state has always been an open carry state. Mainly because I frequently carry a handgun owb when hunting or fishing and if I forget it's on my hip and go inside a gas station or store I'm not in violation of anything.

I did see groups of folks in neighborhoods during both hurricanes Katrina/Rita and Gustav/Ike open carry as a show of force against looters.

Didn't remember this quote from Louis Awerbuck, but I came across it today. As relevant now as ever.

“When it all comes down, the last man standing is going to be standing there in shorts and sneakers with a ’98 Mauser, and all the ninja-looking guys belly up at his feet – with all their cool gear.”

Wisdom translation...Stop spending money on gear, spend it on learning how to use the gear you already have!
Reminded me of this video, a classic for sure.

I like videos that are skill reliant not gear reliant. Thank you for sharing that!

I agree. Man, I HATE to go to the range and see what amounts to a tactical fashion show. Guys only carry a thigh rig or a chest rig when at the range. How is that training if you are only practicing with the things you're 100% sure you're not going to have on when the action jumps off?

My last excursion to my home range I saw 4 guys (all civilians) wearing plate carriers, helmets with nvgs doing the tactical turtle. It was an interesting sight. Train like you fight bro!

I almost get the plates/carrier after seeing folks getting muzzle flagged at my local public range. Probably more likely to get shot there than any “hood” around here.

It's why I do all my training either in ripped t-shirt and naked below the waist or in a Hawaiian Shirt and boxer shorts....I KNOW that when SHTF thats how I will be dressed....

There are a few divots in the ground near the firing line at our academy that have been deliberately left there as a reminder to recruits (and defectives trying to re-qualify)

Edited to add: There used to be a sock in a frame mounted to the wall. With a hole in the forefoot part. Apparently it was too graphic a reminder for the gentle recruits.

The shoulder rig is uncomfortable and hot only useful for wade fishing and if you re old and go to the bathroom regularly…not there yet. Try to run in a thigh rig. If you can you are better than me.

Imagine if you will getting dressed in your newest tactical gear newly pressed with your cap pulled low as the rest of your fellow operators. You have your new custom made .300 win mag. You go to the 800 yard range. There are several of your ilk there but among them is an older bald man his pants are frayed and he does not wear shoes. He is hitting the steel with great regularity much better than you. The worst part is he is the most obnoxious talker of **** that you have encountered.

I merely had the wind figured out that day. It rarely happens so I took advantage.
