whipped this up today, a compact flammable portable fire / heat / light source, something to stash in the 4x4 for emergencies

started with an empty lidded tobacco can , filled with stove pellets and wax soaked lampwick

melted a 65/35% mix of white candle wax and Crisco and filled the can to the brim

let it cool and set, then folded the wicks over and snapped the lid on it.

now its ready for an emergency. Just pop the lid, pull up the wicks and light.

    A better place!!!!
Sweet idea! Where do you get the stove pellets?

I've carried a sterno can along with other fire methods for the last few years in winter. This seems like it'd fit the same principle without the fear of spilling sterno napalm.

home depot, lowes, hardware stores. Most carry the fireplace pellets this time of year. Makes great bedding or cat litter too.....$6 for 40lbs VS $25 for 5 lbs at the pet store.

could this also be made with fatwood or charcoal instead of pellets?
    or even saw dust?
