I purchased a one burner butane stove, and a Coleman oven a few weeks ago, and gave them a go this morning. The set up: Temp gauge: Cranked the stove up on high: 64° out, and it took 8 minuted to reach 350°, then turned burner down to maintain temp: Cinnamon rolls in: A little breezy out, so I used the box as a windscreen: There's a vent on top of the stove, and I could shine my flashlight in it to see how it was doing, so there was never a need to open the oven door to check on them: Did as the directions of the rolls called for, 350° for 25 minutes, and this is the result: Icing on: Very happy how this worked out. Gives us a few more options, and for around $50 total, for stove and oven.
Not sure, but I watched some youTube videos where a guy was using his wood stove to sit it on. I know not the same, just sayin... Come think of it, it would be a bitch to maintain an even temp over a fire. Easier on a stove anywhos.
Would be pretty awesome for an ice drinking shack. Ahem, fishing. Or regular fishing now that I think about it.
Thanks guys, well worth the money. $27 and some change for the oven, $21 and some change for the stove.
It really is a good deal, considering all you can do with it. I bought the butane canisters for $2 each, shipped. They claim you can get 3-4 hours per canister.
Nice set-up! But that same kind of stove has recently been banned in the Netherlands... Normally they function perfectly, but if you top it with a very big pan, skillet (or in this case,an oven.) the heat flows sideways over the gas cannister compartment. Some have exploded.
Someone on BCUSA said the same thing. The oven isn't sitting right over the canister, but it's true that I never checked to see how hot it got right after baking.
I've had one for years, love it, cooked everything from pizza to cookies to bread... baked a pizza in ours during the last blackout. I started using them in fly camps in the Arctic years ago when we'd go out for 3-4 months at a time. Nothing better than fresh bread when you're away missing the comforts of home! I found that it's best not to ever leave them unattended while things are baking, you've got to keep an eye on the temperature andadjust as needed. As others mentioned I would never use it with an attached tank.
I think you'll be really happy with it... I'm surprised that more people don't use them. The only real drawback is that they are relatively small (about 10" pans max if I remember correctly?), so if you have a group having two ovens to work with is a bonus. I would say no, it would be pretty difficult to keep it at a constant temperature in a fire. Maybe if you had a uniform bed of coals and rigged up some sort of a cable/pulley system that would allow you could raise and lower it over the coals to keep the temp constant?
I think 10" is max, but good enough for what we'll be using it for. I did think about ordering another rack for it. I see you can order extras.
Used the oven again this weekend. Worked great once again. Blueberry muffins this time. We also used a different stove this time:
