Putting together some travel plans for 2023. Later in the year we will be back in Northwestern, MI.
Early Summer though after we spend some time visiting Family in WI, thought we would check out MN.
Split Rock State Park, Grand Marais, Grand Portage for two weeks and Isle Royale as a day trip.
Then Door County for a week.
    Here are some stock photos.

Interested to hear how Isle Royale is! Make sure to post a few pictures of that!

Haven't been camping in Door County since before covid but did a day trip last year. Stopped at Lautenbach's Orchard for some cherry salsa, Door County Brewing Company for a drink (the cherry ale was good but very sweet), and lunch.

We were in Door County last year. Think that's where we picked up the Wuhan Virus. Spent the next few days tested positive and isolated in Manistique, MI at a Campground there. Going back this year to DC the week after Memorial Weekend. Great orchards. Lots of wineries now that have developed over the years. I grew up in SW MI and we would go to Door County and go SCUBA wreck diving. Lots of well preserved wrecks due to cold, fresh water.

Isle Royal. Looking forward to visiting. Will definitely take and post photo's.
We could have made the trip from Copper Harbor last year but with the transit time roundtrip, it doesn't leave much time on the Island. Grand Marais or Grand Portage is a much shorter distance to transit.

Made some reservations at the Split Rock State Park and Grand Marais, MN as people are making plans and things were starting to slowly get active and fill.

Two more Falls today in two State Parks.
The High Falls a few hundred yards from the Canadian Border. Both running hard.
    Boats are running every other day out of Grand Portage to Isle Royal. 20230522_122052.jpg 20230522_112702.jpg 20230522_111720.jpg 20230522_110511.jpg 20230522_135702.jpg 20230522_140236.jpg Screenshot_20230522-152736_Maps.jpg 20230522_151853.jpg 20230522_154909.jpg 20230522_154946.jpg

It's really incredible that for over 200 years spanning 3 centuries trade was developed and carried on in this area and fashion. A great deal due to a rodent. 20230524_144526.jpg 20230524_140848.jpg 20230524_134238.jpg 20230524_134145.jpg 20230524_122913.jpg 20230523_135732.jpg 20230523_135909.jpg

Unfortunately we won't get to Isle Royal this trip. Boats aren't running for day trips yet. We're too early for the tourist Season.
There are trips available but require over night stay.
This about wraps up the exploration of Grand Marais, Grand Portage and Boundry Waters area.
Back to Madison and Family matters.
Well be on the Door County Peninsula next for a week with "camping" friends.

We made a day trip up to Door County last weekend. Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, over to Baileys Harbor, and then back down. Stopped at Lautenbach's Orchard, visited with some friends, went out for lunch, and stopped at Door Peninsula Brewing Company.

Awesome photos! We’re taking a Michigan trip soon and will be going to Isle Royale. Between the ferry schedule and the openings at the lodge, we’re only spending one night there. Better than nothing I guess.

Make sure you post up some photos and a report for us!

I am hoping to make a solo trip there in 2025? (along with Copper Harbor and the Keweenaw Peninsula) Planning on spending a few nights backpacking on the North side of the island and will be looking for info/suggestions!
