      <content:encoded><![CDATA[So I dig these little UCO candle lanterns, I carry one with me everyday in my back pack, especially in the winter, they warm up a small shelter pretty well, these lamp oil inserts, seem to burn a little hotter, and the flame is a bit higher too I think. the nice part is with this trangia fuel bottle I can refill the insert prob 10 or more times. I am doing a burn test now , getting almost to 4 hr mark, still going strong, the candle inserts seem to be tough to find sometimes and over priced,...<br />

I&#039;ve really been intrigued by friction fire for awhile now and starting with Andris gifting me a bow drill set at the first gathering I&#039;ve been working at it. Admittedly I&#039;ve went months without picking it up on a few occasions. However, of late I&#039;ve been a bit more diligent on bow and hand drill practice, and today I finally got it.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Got interested in tracker style knives a while back. Picked up a 5&quot;  bladed model but felt it too heavy/unwieldy. Picked up a 3&#039; bladed model and handle to short to allow good control/manipulation. Now I got this 4.25&quot; bladed model and I really like it - not heavy, small enough to manipulate, large enough to get work done. Just a cheapy, but great fun to play with. Carved a spoon out of Acacia wood with it.<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Over the years, I have seen reenactors at Mountain Man rondy&#039;s using Old Hickory butcher knives, as they are fairly similar to those used during the Fur Trade. . .cheap butcher knives imported in from Sheffield England and traded to the Indians for pelts. Being essentially poor, the Mountain men used them too, as they were cheap and plentiful and easily replaced.<br />

Anyway, I picked one up to experiment with. It came fairly sharp, but a little work on the stones brought out a razors edge....<br />
