I have to find a place for everything so I that I'm not constantly having to move it. It's coming together though.
Made a mock up of this idea in my head, used wood and aluminum so I can make adjustments easily. This is about as far as my knifemaking goes, may be able to send off to be made. About a 3 finger grip, little more maybe. I think I want the handle a bit short so it can still sit in the palm so unzipping fur is solid feeling and can be used to drill or start divots etc, and just less bulk to carry. My other two favorite small blades compared.
Damn man, if you can do that you can make a knife happen yourself! Order up that steel and handle material, I think you have a winner there.
Finished this up this morning. Time to make a scabbard. Yes, there's blue tape on the edge. I like having fingers.
I needed something to occupy my time the last few weeks, I've had a small sheet of roofing copper kicking around since the early 90's. When I laid it out for a couple bird house roofs I was left with some chunks that for some reason looked like they could be cuffs or bracelets, I dug out the sheet metal tools and ended up with this pile, family has appropriated about a half dozen before I got a picture. I haven't really made anything for a good while, assembled and embellished but not made, felt good beating something out....... I don't think the cat or the wife enjoy the beating part
Spent some time practicing hammer techniques yesterday, rearranging a RR spike into a proper bbq implement: sauce ladle and meat flipper.
Made another mock up design, bobbed the handle and gave the fore grip area a little contour. Pretty happy with how it is now. I may have to round up some materials and give it a go.
Made a little progress on this knife, had to modify my small belt sander (still working on it), and made a really bad jig for making bevels... but I have a very rough copy of this blade in steel now. I ruined the grind on this one playing with the sander and jig but have learned a bit in the process. While waiting for new steel to arrive I am making a much better grinding jig, and have finished assembly of the forge I purchased to heat with.
This was a really fun project, while looking for supplies for my other knife project, I ran across these pre-made puukko blades and decided to give it a go, the handle is some scrap brass, purple heart I pulled out of a refrigeration trailer years ago, black G10 spacer material and the main handle is a maple block I bought with the blade. The sheath is a little dark but was the only dye I had on hand.
