I start work late tomorrow, so late tonight i wandered down to the nearby 24 hour burger joint and ordered a very late dinner. The young Sikh male working the counter noticed my work boots and safety vest and asked in perfect English , if i worked in construction and where he can go to get hired on? I said no i work in demolition and trucking, but i know lots of construction companies. He asked if anyone is hiring, as it was his parents wish that he get into construction when he got to Canada (he successfully immigrated here two weeks ago) , and that he was working at the fast food place so he could buy work boots, a hard hat and a safety vest, and first aid training. (not cheap here........)

I gave him my info/cell etc and a list of the 20+ construction companies i know, and offered to vouch for him. Got his info and when i got home I texted a major construction firm i haul for and asked if they could hire and mentor the lad.

The Superintendent called me back late and we chatted for half an hour. I gave him the lads info and cell number.

Dude is hired, starts Dec 27 orientation for 2 days, and full time hours plus First Aid courses Jan 2nd 2019 onwards.

Got a call from the dude a few moments ago and he was super excited.

its not what you know, or your background, its who you network with and your desire to work, that lands you good work.

Bacon is very good. I've found I can wrap it around a chorizo to irritate the crap out of my Argentine inlaws.

I seem to have a knack for finding bear dens in the woods.

Was downwind all afternoon from one. Cooking hot dogs over charcoal and mesquite chunks.

Wind coming down the hill, and blowing the food smells, smoke and my scent away from the den.

When I left I noticed the den.....occupied by a ball of black fur.

    I wish!..
Mine are trying to stay up all night... Luckily the littlest is not old enough to understand so we are hanging out eating rice puffs, drinking milk and hot tea and trying to stay awake to put out the presents... :)

    A important PSA!

One of the worst things you can do after opening all your Christmas presents is... Placing all those lovely boxes on the curb letting all your neighbors know about that new big screen TV, New Stereo, PlayStation, computer,etc....

BECAUSE those who like to break into houses are also out checking out what nice new “toys” you got and Taking notes on good future targets...

Better option is to fill up your garbage or recycling can or placing boxes for all the expensive stuff atleast inside non seathrough trash bags out of sight out of mind type deal...

Fortune favors the bold. I just carried 3 presents right thru the kitchen in full view of the recipient.....she didn't even see them. .:D

THIS! take your presents boxes to work and dispose of them there. Metro Vancouver is really bad for this kind of theft.

I bag everything up black construction bags and just take it work and recycle it there. My windows are also opaque, they let light thru but no one can see whats inside.

I normally take out the utility knife and cut up all the boxes and put the peices into one box that is plain brown.

Or an empty diaper box works also.

Just pampers cruisers here. Put a handful of the already used ones on top for good measure.
Or even the plastic sack that contains the latest litter box finds.

Option 3: keep the big boxes, fold them flat and store them. At some point they will come in handy for either laying under a vehicle while working on it or free range targets.
