I have been intrigued by the Yukon pack system for the last couple of years, and from experience, I can say it is a fantastic way to cut weight without a lot of sacrifice. Here's a picture of a Yukon backpack, shamelessly stolen via google images. Here is a well done(ish) video, complete with a hippie survival cutie, on how to make one up: It is typically very comfortable across the back, but the straps, even if webbing is used, aren't comfortable- due to placement and size. It got me thinking though... I'd like to see Frost River, Duluth Pack, Alder Stream or Hidden Woodsman design a system- basically the yoke and some straps, so that you could loose the parts of the pack (the bag) without sacrificing the utility. Sure, you'd still be carrying something that only has the one use- but it would cut down on the unnecessary weight. Alternatively, I think I may end up going with something like LL Bean's "Hunter's Carry-All" or Alps Outdoors Commander X Any thoughts?
