I need out.....of the city. Have hated this place for 20+ years. Have learned to live in it, be it prosperous or food bank or stealing food from community gardens. I get by. I still hate it

have dealt with good neighbors, bad neighbors, dangerous neighbors, gangs, thieves, druggies, and violent people. for 20 + years.

have dealt with (thru my old work at hospital lock down units) mentally ill persons, dual diagnoses mentally ill / drug addicts, drug addicts, alky's , criminals, etc. Have seen the worst of people. (not their fault)

have dealt with insane INSANE INSANE INSANE North America's WORST TRAFFIC ......daily

I'm tired, I'm burnt out, I'm fed up.

I spend 80% of my income just getting to work. (fuel, high taxes on fuel, parts, repairs).

    80% EIGHTY PERCENT!!!!

And now our provincial govt wants to charge us mobility pricing , $.50 cents to a $1 or so per KM driven. That's gonna add $3000 - $5000 a month to my expenses.

im paying INSANE prices for basics like vegetables, basics like eggs cheese bread butter coffee , etc.......two days of food is $50-$75 CDN. I do not often eat meat its too expensive and ****ty quality

my job satisfaction/enjoyment level is ZERO

I'm taxed insanely high (almost 48% payroll taxes) plus all the other taxes here.

I work 90 - 100 hours every two weeks. Its easy money but soul sucking boredom and non enjoyment. PRE TAX i make $3000+ gross every two weeks. In reality I get less than $1300 after taxes. I leave work angry most days.....

I have ZERO SAVINGS at 45 years old. ZERO.

I literally live paycheck to paycheck, the apt is paid for, as is monthly insurance on my rigs. The cats are well cared for , there is always $300 a month set aside for them, and i would take care of them before me. Litter, food, vet etc. My medical coverage is covered, i'm rarely sick or ill, mostly muscle pulls or concussions.......

i'm tired of buying daily vegetables that should cost less than $2 , for $15 , tired of passing up meat because its too $$$$

tired of buying crappy cheese and eggs and bread.

    tired....just tired.

want an off the grid life.

garden/greenhouse , chickens , goats, compost pile. simple cabin living. hunting/ trapping / fishing

    firewood pile, wood stove cooking/heat.

I want to have a property with a main home (cabin) , and several camping sites on it for seasonal revenue. Like 5 sites with tipis on them . Central fire pit with smoker/bbq spit cooking.

maybe a shooting range , cater to LEO/MIL

    thoughts?

No real 'specific advice' from me either. But as far as I know, you only get to live one time. Even if you get more, no reason to be unhappy.

Do you have family in the area you live now? That's the only reason I can think of for you to stay.

20 + klicks each way, depending on traffic jams / 're-routing. Gas is $1.50 a liter. I burn 60+ liters every 2 days. (Work/shopping/etc) jeep is better on fuel (diesel) but jeep breakdowns eat up the savings . Insurance in BC is brutal. Auto parts are expensive.

If nothing is keeping you tied to Canada you might be better off here?

You’re making socialism sound like a good thing?

Spent years in a miserable marriage “for the kids”. When we got divorced they asked why we didn’t do it sooner because we were making them miserable too. I’m in a great marriage now with a woman who is my best friend. The transition period wasn’t an easy part of my life but it worked out.

Sometimes you just have to pull the lever marked “Eject!” and hope for a soft landing.

Metro Vancouver is the most expensive unaffordable real estate in north America right now. Never mind buying.......renting is unaffordable. 600 SF Apt is average $1500 - $2000 a month .

I'm with you Bushman. Retired (SS retirement only income)and living on the front range in Colorado is becoming unattainable anymore. Looking at affordable houses east of here. Average mortgage comes in at about $400 a month compared to $800 a month lot rent where I'm at. Golden years my ass !!!!

Move to the states. Plenty of jobs if you are willing to work. Knowing your ethic that shouldn't be an issue for you. You could get by here much cheaper and could go to the PNW and be in a similar climate.

For this price have you considered a commuter type car? My fam bought a car that never got under 40 MPG when we moved out west. We where living 12 miles outside a small town that had a walmart, a few food places and a couple gas stations... it was another 75+ miles to the “big city”. I could break it down more BUT long story short.. Our $275 per month car payment was essentially neutralized by saving so much $$$$ on gas. The difference of 30 plus extra miles per gallon was well worth it!

I go full electric if could afford a new car. BC Has the highest fuel prices in north America. Over .60 cents per liter is multiple taxes.

I just hate the city. I've adapted to it but I hate it. Want out.

    Hm....hmm...hmmmmm......

Ever thought of moving down to hillbilly country? What you're talking about could be set up down here relatively inexpensively, and there's work. People down here still use bartering. We've talked about providing housing to someone in exchange for hired hand type work, taking care of livestock, fencing, mowing, etc.
    Just kinda thinking out loud....

Would prefer to stay in BC. Folks are here and they are gettin older .. it's a lot nicer outside of the metro Vancouver area. Just look at my adventure pics in Lytton etc.......
