As the title says. I’m thinking of heading out for a night or two alone in the marsh before the weather gets warm again. Never done this before but I feel it’s something I need to do.
Other than a tent and fire, what should I take along with me. I want to kill it and grill it for food. I obviously take water and fire starter with me. But what are some essentials that’ll make it a little more comfortable other than Jim Bean lol

Bacon, a good hearty heavy loaf of bread, good boots, rifle/sidearm/blades/axe, bushpot, loads of food - mac & cheese, chili, etc... headlamp, tarp, cordage, first aid kit etc

this adventure sounds awesome! Stay safe and keep us updated!

I’ll definitely post a pic of my adventures lol
My benelli m2, and G19 will be with me. Along with a coffee pot
This will be a first for me. I’ll take some of my wise food stash with me incase the squirrel and rabbit are scarce lol

It’s hard to “kill n grill”. While it’s possible to hunt bunnies or other small game it usually involves some work and time invested. Better to carry the food you want. This is a meditative experience. You could fish (if you wanted) spend time perusing edible plants, cut wood, whittle or practice woodcraft like snare types…but relax, enjoy a warm fire, a relaxing beverage, let your mind embrace the inner primal. :)

Yeah, I think you nailed it. Hopefully I can pull it off this weekend. Weather permitting
I’m thinking just a mile hike into my backyard and just chill

A Thermacell, you know as much as I do how the gnats can get here. They drive you insane.

Never head into the woods without it.
Mosquitoes don’t bother me so much, but I’m hairy as a Sasquatch and the gnats love to get caught up in my arm hair and try to eat their way out lol

Lol same thing for me man. Mosquitos don’t mess with me a whole lot either, I’m usually attacked by gnats and deer flies.

Still in the works. We have been super slammed at work since Christmas. Which is partly why I want to just walk off into the woods lol.
I’m actually heading to Academy today to get a couple supplies. I’ve also decided to tap into my Wise food stash to make meals simple.

Don't over think it mate or over pack. Basic food, water and your sleeping/shelter is all you need for a night. You are there to enjoy being away from the hustle not carry it all with you. You will be close enough that if you are ill prepared in the end no harm is done, but I bet you wont be. Simple is the way to go. Just stop and take it in !

Thanks. No, definitely not over packing. I’m just lacking in a couple items. Mainly shelter.
I went to get a light packable tent, but there wasn’t anything that fit for what I’m looking for. So I’ll order one. That and a simple drip pot coffee maker.
I already have a wool blanket, freeze dried food, water, and fire.

I would carry my phone and have it turned off in case of emergency and compass in case you get turned around in marsh due to everything looking same. Leave note in vehicle on dash with name number when you will return in case something happens. Just a thought.

Unfortunately it never happened. Been crazy busy with work, my daughters sports, and starting on my camp in Mississippi. It will happen but we are running out of time here in South Louisiana. We about to hit that stripping down to your drawers in the blind with two thermacells while hunting hogs at night weather lol.
