June 30th/July 1st - warm, wet, humid. "The Send Smoke Up For Father, Hang Out With A Good Bro, Eat Great Food Tour"

Have not been out for my regular Church Of The Woods in a while now. Life took a turn for the worst with the ill health and ultimate passing of my Father recently. Been dealing with life and death lately. Carried my Father , along side with my Cousins and Uncles , to his final resting place. My Uncle nearly broke down crying recounting my Fathers life. I damn near broke down when my Uncle shook my hand afterwards and told me, in very broken speech, to take care of my Mother.

Coupled with me not working for over 2 months. Its been rough. More so on my Mother than me. She was not really prepared for this. It will take time.

Before my Father passed on, I landed a great job, with a small family trucking co. They treat me like family. I'm not used to that. At all. I'm used to an extremely toxic/violent/abusive/vandalizing personal vehicles type of workplace. Not used to people caring and offering me time off to attend to family affairs. Not used to companies treating me with respect.

Its amazing how one can excel when treated with respect.

This weekend, the Canada Day weekend, I wanted to get out and have a campfire, great food, great beers, and hang out with my best friend. I went shopping for food and loaded up the Pelican ProGear coolers, and off we went. Old School '84 Suburban with barn doors, lifted, 35" tires.

Buddy pulled up and we loaded up the rig.

cheesy photo, normally I'm driving, its rare that i get to ride shotgun

got to camp, despite being a long weekend / holiday weekend , there was no one around.

Buddy and I were starving, neither of us ate at all today. Fired up the TemboTusk Skottle and whipped up some Sirloin burgers.

bud and i both chowed down on two 1lb burgers each. Spent the afternoon BS-ing about life and events and stuff.

Bud rucked up with his pack and shotgun, and wandered off to build a latrine somewhere. We're in full on grizzly /black/brown bear and cougar country, hence the bear gun loaded with tungsten slugs. I cut more wood at camp and set up my sleeping area. The camp was under a bunch of giant red cedars, hardly any rain was piercing the canopy. My tarp is from Black Willow Outdoors.

    20180630_200943.jpg

built up the fire and layed down a 2 foot thick pile of green boughs. Sent up a massive amount of smoke for my Father. Toasted him with a cold lager.

    20180630_205814.jpg

Thank You Father, for all your teachings.

finished off the night with a light lager.

hit the ground and pulled the mozzie net over me....the recent dampness brought them out in droves.

in the morning we broke camp and explored the area, then headed back to Vancouver.

good to get out, even for a short time.

July 07, 2018 - "The 4 wheeling, Get Yelled At By Old Man, CRKT Woods Kangee Tomahawk break in, Camp Fire and Mashed Potatoes Tour"

Threw the L.R.R.P.R. gear into the Tracker, tossed back an espresso and hit the road. Drove up to the Deeks Lake area, locked in the hubs, into 4lo and crawled up the deteriorating old logging road.

As I slowly crawled up the steepest rockiest section, a man in his 70's with frazzled professor white hair and his female companion stepped off the road to the side. "HEY, NOT EXACTLY A HIGHWAY YOU KNOW!" he bellowed at me as I passed. I had to laugh, not to make him upset or anything....but yea your right...its not exactly a highway......LOL....

after 30 minutes or so of crawling up the road, i parked the rig, put rocks behind all the wheels (parking brake) and got the gear out

    20180707_142706.jpg

prepped the EF-CHLOR solution for treating water and filled the canteen from the ditch

new cougar / wilderness meth head tool - CRKT Kangee Woods T-Hawk. This was a CRKT & RMJ Tactical collaberation - a RMJ style hawk head for the poor. lol

    20180707_142723.jpg

sprayed myself down with Muskol bug dope and loaded up, hiking down the steep loose rocky road. No one had been down here in years....too steep, too loose.

    looking south.

my Tracker will actually make it down and up this road fine, but I suspect I have the start of a front main seal leak, so I didn't want to push the rig any harder than I was already doing.

    20180707_144507.jpg

overgrown with alders. No one has driven down here in years...save maybe a dirt bike a week or so ago

    20180707_145423.jpg 20180707_145724.jpg 20180707_145730.jpg

    so overgrown

    20180707_145554.jpg

Even the dirt biker had enough of having his face whipped by overhanging branches, the tracks indicated he turned around.

old spur road, completely overgrown. You used to be able to walk down this. Last time i was here was about 14 years ago.

hundreds of thousands of alders taking over. First tree to grow on the sides of logging roads, in fact you can map out every old overgrown logging road in BC simply by noting the foliage patterns from overhead.

    20180707_150627.jpg

road opened up a bit, kept walking down the road. Damn stickers all over my socks....

got the dead end by the creek, it opens up into a nice camping spot. There is a Government water monitor well pipe here.

a little trick in BC is to cut down alders when you leave camp, they dry and the next time your back you have dry firewood. This one was cut down within the last year

cotton tow for tinder. Flashes off with a ferro rod spark rapidly, but does not sustain a flame long. However....if you pack / roll it up tightly it hold a coal that you keep blowing on
