    Skramas are quite the rage over on bcusa. Im glad it was pointed out that you have to use one to appreciate it because i have never had any interest because i think they are ugly as sin lol

    Yeah. those things are hideous, but remarkably ergonomic and practical. I handled both sizes at the last Northeast Beckerhead gathering. 80CrV2 is basically 1084 with a smidge of vanadium to prevent grain growth during forging/heat-treating. Super tough fine-grained steel that performs across a wide range of hardness.

    The marketing copy for those is interesting - the thing about the 52Rc jacket over the 59Rc core. I can only assume that they basically heat-treat them un-shielded, and then don't bother to grind off the decarb, which results in a softer surface for a few thousandths of depth. I wonder if it actually contributes to overall toughness in a meaningful way.
