Is it going to rain on the day I want to cook?.....

    image.jpeg
No, it's going to come down in frog drowning sheets!

Rain or not I'm going to cook. Note: gluten free dough is kind of...crumbly.

    image.jpeg
The first try was a flop. I reballed the dough and decided to try rolling it out in the pot..

    image.jpeg
It kind of worked. ;). It's ugly but we're going with it. I halved my bread recipe and I really needed the whole batch. Live and learn right?
I also rolled out a top crust on the inside of the lid but that pic won't download....technology bah!

So after I bothered to get the tripod set up, and put a roof over the grill, yep the sun (and the insects) came out.

    image.jpeg
A 12" skillet of marinated chicken. This is dangerous already.

    image.jpeg
    A pan of savory vegetables...

    image.jpeg
And a good portion of sliced mushrooms, sautéed in real butter.

As the ingredients come off the fire, I just put em in a big bowl. All going to be in the same pie yeah?

    image.jpeg
Start spooning in the creamy sauce I made. I should have made more of this too..

    image.jpeg
Then put the whole mess in the crust you made in the Dutch oven. Spoon any sauce left on it.

Then the top crust. This is going to be the ugliest meat pie ever made. :D

    image.jpeg
Back to the fire ye scurvy dogs! This needs to go at about 400f for 1 hour. I count 16 on top and 12 under I think.

    image.jpeg 1
    1 hr and a lift to check....OMG. (I didn't burn it smooth up! :) )

My Beloved and photographer says it is worthy of a golden deliciousness close up.

I had eaters waiting at the table this time...

    image.jpeg
I'd say this would stave off starvation eh? No joke, the pot was still warm to the touch here....I think I need a bigger pot!

Well there you go guys. This is the very first meat pie I have ever made. Another first for my time here with y'all.
Thanks for hangin with me. I'm having a blast...lets keep it goin.

A trailer big enough to haul my JobSite/chuckwagon box and my kayak. No state park or campsite will be safe....might be in one close to you. Follow your nose. ;)

I love peaches...from my own trees too. Preserved in a brown sugar and cinnamon blend just for this, " sweets for the sweet" ? ;)

There's always a plan...kinda, my brother. :). It will take this "Icy block" 3-4 days to thaw in refrigeration . The rest of the menu is taking shape in my dark and twisted inner being. :D

That's not good for you myfreind. Now some people spend 15 minutes in meditation every day, or a period of contemplation, or reading a religious text...these are all good things. I find that standing over a cutting board with a knife in my hand to create a healthy salad does it for me. 4-5 days a week I collect the ingredients ( broccoli, carrots, radishes, ect) and spend 15-20 minutes with a razor sharp 6" blade at my fingertips. Add a retort pack of tuna, salmon, or chicken, and you have a power meal... That doesn't send you to an early grave like Mikey d's will. Try it, you will feel better. I guaranteeeee it. ;)

AAA Angus Steak, Root Vegetables Stew.........

    making enough for two days.

Mom's old cast iron stew pot, heated hot, large 2" plus chunks of Angus Steak dropped in (Drop It Like Its Hot, Drop It Like Its Hot......)

seared very well to lock in that flavor, then add chunked onions, large chunks of potatoes, carrots, celery, a large jalapeno, garlic (whole cloves) , bouillon cube, black pepper Worcestershire sauce , sea salt and some garlic chili sauce. Liquid is beer. Toss in a huge handful of dried or fresh rosemary.

Low and SLOOOOOOOOOW simmer for several hours.

    IMG_7741.jpg IMG_7743.jpg IMG_7744.jpg IMG_7751.jpg

I really need to make a LARGE batch of this and spoon it into mason jars and put into the freezer for those days after work where i just too exhausted to cook.

i would freaking love to get the BIGGEST Potjie made and make this for a crowd, in the woods. Like 75 lbs of meat, 50 lbs veggies, 2 - 5 lbs spices, etc..........over a good hot fire. By a river, in the mountains.
