I’ve got the same blade. It’s by far one of my favorites. The sheath is phenomenal! I do get forearm fatigue after an hour or so, but that could be said of any small knife. The D2 takes a long time to dull.
My knives run the gamut of sizes, but after taking stock for this thread, they do seem to fall into predictable groupings by size. Here's where my stuff lands: Anything over 4" is basically a specialized use knife. These include skinners, filet knives, butchers, and assorted kitchen knives. Although I have been eyeballing a 4hm that'll break this habit a bit. I have a few knives that fall into the 3-4" utility knife category. And honestly they don't get nearly enough use. My most used knives all measure in at under 3". These are the izulas, candirus, and every folder I carry. For me it's more a consequence of habitat than any sort of skill based decision. Being in an apartment and working in an office generally relegates me to having to keep a low sharp things profile in day to day life.
My daughter got this hedgehog at Blade last year it hasn’t seen much use since she gravitates toward her foxkit. Very capable little Blade!
The base knife is in production right now but I won't have finalized info on the price point until they're actually in hand. They'll be quite economical, though, despite being USA-made. Scales will be an accessory item and I'm working on some options on that front currently. I'm thinking of including some fasteners with the base knife for folks who want to try their hand at making their own scales.
I say that because, pic 1, garlic cloves in brine lower right, and pic 2, a decent size clove next to a 13" blade and comparable to some thumb sized cherry tomatoes...
My daughter got a custom Lil Mook as a gift and it is her go to for all of her cutting needs. It will be the one she takes to Bushcraft if her schedule works out and the one she will have at the parent/class. She loves that knife.
I absolutely believe a person should be versatile, be able to change your oil or change a tire, clean a fish, skin a rabbit, identify various plants and be able to turn them in food. This also applies to knive I think. In my lowly opinion a person ought to be able to use a 2" ffg and vise versa be able to do the same task with a 12" Scandi leku, maybe not with the same degree of smoothness or speed but at least enough to get the job done. For this kind of stuff I like big, 10"-12"-14" and up, could do it all day, but I do like my Izula and this forces me to use it skillfully. Albeit a bit slower as this wee razor will take your fingertip off reeeaaaally easy.
I was thinking about this thread while browsing around for another small knife, and realized I don't really have a good heavy use large knife for comparison. Seems like it might be time for something closer to an esee 6 or so for me.
A 6? 6?! Dude. This is the Esee forum, a lil ole 6 just ain't enuff blade. Here, you sit there, lemme make you a sammich. Eat it, you'll feel better, then we can talk about how much chopper you really need.
