Interesting. As is the concept of "logged out". I wonder how a human in 1886 would have interpreted that.
This is ArguableLobster. I'd been having troubles for over a week. slow load times, sometimes it would just hang on a blank page with no error, or even end up reloading a previous page. I tried it in anouther browser and it worked fine. Then I logged into my acount on that browser and it sucked again. Weird. Gets weirder. then I tried making a new acount... and it works perfectly fine. Chorpie has suggested it might be an issue with some script that gathers user specific info. I've been poking at this by changing the settings of this account to what my other account is but it still works fine. and changiny my other account to the defaults... which still dosn't work.
Yet more information. Using my browsers (Chrome Version 54.0.2840.99 m, Internet Explorer Version 11.0.9600.18524) signed into my account everything is zippy as can be. Signed into Lobster's account it is slow. This is a Lobster network connect: You'll see that the request is sent very quickly. The response comes over 12s later. Something weird seems to be happening for specific users on the server side. If it were client side, it would theoretically reproduce in any case (fast or slow) on both accounts in my browsers.
It's well after midnight here in <see location>. I've watched three episodes of Saxons v Vikings (see my latest thread re "The Last Kingdom") and am using a diamond stone to put an edge on my Gransfors Bruks axe. Logging out. ..
Figured something like this was happening. I only started having trouble after I made an innocuous joke after the election.
Except I can't use the forum on my personal phone even with the new user name. It's been real guys, but it appears I'm no longer wanted around these parts.
This is disturbing. Not surprised that this is an available option, but I guess that instead of just banning people outright, you can just get the them so fed up with the hassles that they go away. If the powers that be don't want someone then be a man and ban them. This is the coward's way out of dealing with someone deemed undesirable by someone in power. I don't like it. Not one bit.
I really don't think that Jeff would allow something like that to happen. Give him a little more credit than that. If I've learned one thing from being on this forum for the 3 or 4 years I've been here its this: Jeff Randall is a stand up guy (except maybe when he pees). Although his views may be different from mine or others, he doesn't let his emotions get the best of him. And if he has an issue with anyone he addresses it head on. He's not afraid to call it like he sees it regardless (or especially) if butthurt ensues. And if anyone did anything that goes against forum rules, Jeff said he'd ban them, plain and simple. My opinion is that if you are able to log in,you are welcome here... However just from reading this thread there are definitely some computer savvy guys on here and maybe something is going on that the powers that be are not aware of..... And for the record I'm not saying it's anyone in this thread causing the problems, just saying this thread is proof that there are certainly people on this site capable...
We don't actually know that that is or is not going on. But there isn't another explanation for quick http requests with super slow response on a per-user basis without seeing server logs, or anything.
A forum is as only as good as its moderators. See how the present bunch work out. Most of them was on my ignore list on the old forum
