So we all know prepping is a big thing. But 30-days of food and water might not be enough. Primitive and historic cultures didn’t focus on printed or minted currency. They traded or bartered one item for another. So for when it’s TEOTWAWKI what items are you stocking up on not just for personal use but to trade for other goods as well? Also, please include primitive skills or was to create good from other goods that can be grown, used or traded for...

Two good items people “need” to have. My fAtger grew up a tobacco farmer. Living in a farm now I would try to grow tobacco and corn and manufacturer both as sustainable currency. I’ll copy in a post I made about making alcohol later for reference material. Personally I don’t drink coffee but I would stockpile it sealed for freshness to barter with. Also just like in antiquity tea

I think that old silver coins would be the first actual currency. But ammunition and some sort of fuel would be in high demand.

Antibiotics from fish keeping supply companies. There's some sources online that calculate doses for humans and what ailments they can treat. It's one of the few ways to acquire antibiotics without a Rx.

I'm huge fan of One Second After and that series of books and others in that genre.

After reading numerous books of that nature the general consensus is that Paper money becomes toilet paper after about 72hrs.

Items that become the currency of choice tend to be:
Ammo (22 being the primary currency)
    Booze
    Cigs
    Canned foods
    Meds and First Aid

    Other items not so apparent:
    SALT and Suger
    Coffee
Hygiene products (from toothpaste- feminine products)
KNOWLEDGE--the internet goes down so old "How To" books and a reference library go a long way

Maybe tobacco seeds? Super small and keep for ages. I grew it for a few years. Cool plant and easy to grow and make into tobacco thats pleasantly usable.

That is why I have a full library and not a kindle!!! Lol toilet paper will one day decide who is king!

Self sufficiency at its finest... how do you get tobacco seeds? Would love to grow my own for my pipe but never researched it... yet...

I was looking at stills a couple months ago and talking to a wine maker. I think it is a federal crime to distill any amount of alcohol. I thought it was ok originally too.

I thought it was just about selling? I could be completely wrong too... I know you can make wine and beer. It’s all alcohol right? Lol
