bought my Nissan Frontier stock. ive had it for about 3 years and I use it for everything. I have added a bunch of offroad upgrades, love working on my own stuff. this truck is a beast. a few more goodies to add before I'm done..... if I'm ever done. but for now here is a fairly recent picture. so far my setup includes: Shrockworks frame sliders PP Engineering radiator, engine and oil pan skids WAM Bumpers Winch Bumper Smitty Built Xrc winch with synthetic line Radflo extended travel front coil overs SPC UCA's extended travel rear bilstein struts PRG 2" lift rear leaf spring kit spidertrax 1.5" wheel spacers front and rear off road lights and soon to come a Leitner Active Cargo System bed rack. overland goodness
It's nothing special and it doesn't spend much time off road other than around the farm. But it pulls like an ox, it's faster in a straight line than any other truck I've owned and it growls like a pissed bear.
He's kinda like a mad scientist when it comes to vehicles and firearms, build's "Rat Rod's" outta just about anything.
if i could find a 1 ton chassis with Dana 80's front and rear, i'd drop a old beetle body onto and drop a Cummins diesel into the front.
There is SO many of the NEW vW "beetle style" cars in the wreckers.......one could have a brand new body for cheap........hmmm..... lots of f350 diesel chassis's too........shorten the frame.........
2014 Trail Edition, original owner, currently 66,000 miles and rolling. Here it is outfitted as a recovery vehicle for working a Euro style road rally. I'm running the engine/drive train completely stock. But I've put a Toytec/Bilstein lift kit on it f/r with an 1.5 inches of lift. The rubber is BF Goodrich A/T in 275 (approximately 32 inches). Here is my rather pedestrian curb side view. I've tried to set this up as "sleeper" vehicle. I just don't want it to stand out as being an overbuilt mall cruiser. For example, the winch is recessed and this bumper damn near looks stock. That is 1/4 inch plate steel tied to the frame. Of course it is capable. Hell's Revenge (Moab UT) last summer. It is armor plated from the front to the back with skid plates. So I can (and have) rock crawled it. Here is a side by side with my daughter's 2017 Trail Edition, like father / like daughter. The backdrop is the Colorado River rolling into Moab. I integrated my mobile short wave radio unit into the dash.
Man, they are awesome. I have a ton of trigger time behind the wheel of a bug. It is the one vehicle I can actually work on plus it makes me feel closer to @Andy the Aussie's family
