I can't see them. I just took your word for it. Man, central unit just went out. Goats are holding out on me.... But I'm building that hooch. @thepierced , so sorry to hear about your family. Take care, now.
It gives me this message when I click the links. "You do not have permission to view media within this album."
Ok I'm bowing out due to lower back pain . I barely made it out of the woods today and had to cut my Sat/Sun overnighter/shelter build and moon photography trip very short. Trip report in a bit. Waiting for my friend who is an ER nurse to come over and pre-assess me , will decide if an ER visit is needed. Absolute hell getting out of the woods today. 3' of new snow in Squamish / Chekamus area. Then a long drive in heavy traffic jams from Chekamus to Vancouver. What is normally a 60 minute trip took 3 hours. Back was just screaming the whole time.
You alright brother? This is no good. I'm not happy. Bro, let me know what's up. If your lower back is hurt, it's not a good thing as I'm sure are well aware. Best of luck brother. PS: man next post is going to piss you off. ... I was in Nanaimo...
I was going to build a snow trench shelter, stomp down the deep snow and line it lengthwise with boughs, then two parallel logs on the top of the snow, with branches and boughs on top for the roof. Lots of great entries here already. We can do this again.
@thepierced I'm sorry for your loss. awesome stuff @STPNWLF ! @Bushman5 hope you get better soon and that it's not serious. Ihad a herniated disc years ago which lead to a paralized lower right leg, operation, rehab. Took me months to get back. Take the pain seriously! I prob. get out with two of my boys today, we're going to visit an old "Räuberhöhle", a cave where actual robbers lived in the Middle Ages, and maybe even build a den. It will be a lot less sophisticated though
@Bushman5 that's a really good call actually! @vikingr This I have to see. One thing about caves, they are usually waterproof lol
Ok...temp outside is 12F, wind chill is 4. My neck of the woods produces cedar, so guess what i used? No cordage, per say, but i used green waitaminute vines because they were handy and plentiful. Little rock fireplace, and a bed of cedar branches and hickory leaves. Wife says there is a major temp difference once inside even without a fire. Only tool used was a Fiskars 14" hatchet. I worked under the premise that I was out working in the woods and wore what I normally would wear, and for some reason have to spend an unplanned night. I always carry a 3" fixed blade, Ferro rod, pm cotton, and a Mylar blanket in my cargo pocket, and a canteen if I'm going to be out working. This is just to survive one unplanned overnighter, even though I could keep improving on it if need be.
I like that fireplace. I was kind of surprised that you know what waitaminute vines are. Those Rangers must have taught you that.
I ought to add that I just used a natural frame, bowing some limbs down, following out a half dome then going from there.
