Like bushy said, learn how to use a pull saw and you won't want anything else. They are so accurate and cut with barely any effort. They can be a bit tricky on sticky wood though

I'll give that a try if I ever buy a silky again. Hard to break my bow saw habits I guess

Yes they do, you are right! I buy my silky stuff from lee valley, I just have to find the saw. I've had several Bahco saws and just found the blade to be thicker and therefore more forgiving.

I'll take je criticism about my improper technique ( I think it was a lubrication issue as I didn't have any WD 40 with me, but I wanted the fat wood more than I wanted my saw lol) but for the record I will try one again.

I just have never had silky saws fail in any other scenario than an over heated or sticky blade that gets stuck on an over zealous forward stroke. For regular work they are great.

With that being said, if I had my GN American felling axe with me, I wouldn't have used he saw at all and we wouldn't be having this conversation LOL

MEC carries a few Silky saws and spare blades for those.
In my opinion Silky saws are the best. ;)

Got out today with my oldest son.

Had an AMAZING time. I let him play around with my Junglas and Junglas 2...He is a natural. So proud of him. Like any father would be I guess.

At 9 years old, he can gather fire making materials, and light his own fire with a firesteel..He is attentive to his surroundings and pays attention to different sounds an abnormalities...When I am quiet, he is quiet...He loves knives, and is proficient with them..He loves fire even more than knives..LOL, he is his daddies boy. Safety is always number 1.

Away we go. He is leading the way. He hauls around his own bag, full of snacks, drinks and bushcraft gear.

    IMG_1680 - Copy - Copy.JPG

We stopped for a bit to play around with the J2..The boy thinks its awesome...So do I.

    IMG_1682 - Copy - Copy.JPG

I let him use the big Junglas also. he loves that thing.

    01.06 (2).JPG

I showed him how to gather birch bark tinder for his fire.

    01.06 (3).JPG

This kid can rock a firesteel..He lit his first fire when he was 5...I will try to find the video LOL

    01.06 (5).JPG

    SUCCESS!

We used the Junglas to cut down some dead standing wood for our fire.

    IMG_1688.JPG

The boy had fun playing with his Izula.

    IMG_1689 - Copy.JPG

He loves the big Junglas...He told be it was powerful hahahaha

    IMG_1693 - Copy.JPG

On our way in, we collected some punky wood and cotton wood bark strands for the friction fire we were going to make later on.

    IMG_6772.JPG

This was a nice picture of our surroundings.

    IMG_6773.JPG

Its hard to see but there were a lot of rabbit runs in the area. We discussed proper trap setting techniques...

Mother natures tinder bundle...if it wasn't full of snow.

Awesome outing! My oldest son is just 4 right now and doesn't quite have the attention span for all this yet, and my oldest daughter doesn't have much interest in that sort of thing

Awesome stuff thanks for sharing! Nothing like getting your kids into outdoor activities. I'm so blown away by your area, such an awesome terrain!

My son loved my Junglas so much we got him a dark earth one for turning some grades around and maintaining his A average. He's 17 now and I couldn't be more proud of him. He's got more esee's than I do, and puts them all to good use.

I enjoyed your fatwood collection pics, favorite pastime of mine at the deercamp I go to in Mississippi when it's not hunting season. I've got about an 80# stump my son and I harvested sitting next to my fire pit in my backyard.

    @Bushman5

    BUSSE USE AND ABUSE PICTURES.

These knives are awesome. Awesomely overpriced, but awesome nonetheless. Problem is, the vast majority of BUSSE owners only use these knives to take pictures of while they sit elegantly next to an expensive bottle of scotch. You rarely see these knives in the field, getting whooped like ESEE's.

Sooooo, I'm not one of those folks who babies their overpriced knives.

    Pictures below.

    TGLB was brand new!
