I have wanted one for a long time and have come close a few times. This isn't exactly the handle material or steel I would have picked myself, but I'm surprised with how much I like it. It was a deal I just couldn't pass up.
Izula in my pocket for EDC, but when I'm in the woods, a Scandi is on my belt. I no longer have the bushcraft -- great knife, but too heavy for me -- but still got the others. I bought the top one from @FortyTwoBlades . @McKROB gifted me the Nying.
nice knives in this thread...the lowly mora 510 is now my hands-down favorite out of all the scandi i've tried over the years.
Some of my scandis. SET M3C. A. Wright & Sons woodlore in rosewood and an SWC woodlore with elk scales.
I posted my Blind Horse Knives Forest Trail near the top of this thread but that is an old picture that I posted to just move the thread along. Here are more current photos (taken a few minutes ago) with a little background on the knife. I got this knife in a trade with CWB a few months ago. From what CWB said this Forest Trail was one of the final collaborations out of the Blind Horse Knives shop. I'm a fan of both L.T. Wright and Dan Coppins who have restarted their companies under the LT Wright name and Battle Horse Knives name respectively. I own knives from all 3 shops. I'm still most partial to the originals. Their original knives carry the logo of a draft horse which in my opinion is one of the greatest logos of all time. The knife came with an exquisite custom leather sheath from Ramos Custom Sheaths. The tooling on the sheath was fantastic. This is a fairly large knife at 10 inches OAL. But my hand comfortably covers the handle and it feels just right. One of the best handles of any knife I own. I like Scandis for in the woods. It just seems to me the work suits them. I mostly carry a Bushcrafter on my belt when I go hiking. (That was also shown earlier in this thread.) But my fall goal is to work this knife through the fall and winter and see how I like the little bit larger size versus the Bushcrafter. Many of their knives are O1 steel and this is no exception. They also provide "ice skate" like spines on their blades. They make sparks like no striker I've ever owned. This knife came with a great patina already underway. It has only gotten better. This is one of the very best knives in my possession. It cost me a CRK 25 and it was worth it to me.
Gotta say this is probably one of my favorite knives as far as appearances are concerned. One day I'll make sure I get to try one out and see if it works as good as it looks. Which I'm sure is most definitely the case.
I just purchased some new Moras yesterday. These are going to be gifts to neighbors, my son, and fill in a few holes for me. From top to bottom the new purchases are a 711 Craftline in carbon, Companion F Orange is stainless, a Basic 546 in stainless. The Eldris came last week in stainless, the Companion MG in stainless (my all time favorite Mora and most used), and lastly my Classic #2 in carbon.
This was probably one of the best descriptive posts of a knife I've seen here. Thanks JAD, I love the thought that goes into a lot of what you post! Now I need to get a dang scandi in my collection.
@JMJ -- thanks for the nice compliment. There is such a wealth of knowledge on this forum (besides just knives). I often see comments from members that they trust the judgement of someone here more so than any other source. I don't need to visit a Glock forum when I can get an opinion from someone like @Expat, or an emergency medicine site when I can ask @Joelski. So when I post something like this I try to give enough details that you have an idea of what I'm talking about. And as always it is just my opinion. You folks can decide for yourselves what that is worth.
