    ^ Wicked nice ^

Reminds me of my 686 short barrel from days of yesteryear.
That I no longer own it is strong evidence that I'm an idiot.

Good holster, is light-weight, easy to switch the clip from one side to the other and my gun (IWB and BERETTA 92A1 HOLSTER) easily fit in the holster.

This thread has been sadly neglected of late...

Paul Harrell does a solid job in this vid of dispelling the common myth that there's little difference in power between a .38+P and .357 mag when shot out of a snubnose:

    I've owned ^ both ^.

Given a choice now, I'd take .38 spl.

But these days, I'm carrying a spear and machete, instead.

Way quieter. And the machete also cuts wood for a fire.

a steel 16 ounce snub is very uncomfortable.
Out of my 13 ounce S&W 340 it borders on brutal.
Plus P is manageable and what I carry.
    .38 spl is downright fun.

Ah, the revolver in ^that pic^ means one number, a decimal: 0.357

Been wondering where you were at.

Haven't seen you much in these parts of late.

Paul Harrel does great gun videos.
Given a choice, I will take the .357 every time. That way I can still shoot both."

@Ballenxj makes a good point. Versatility. 2 rounds.

For me, it's mostly about weight. I could carry a .38 +p snub that will shoot that ammo more comfortably with far less weight than the revolver I'd want for .357 mag.

But then, I'm a backpacker, and smaller person who counts ounces, so ...

Agreed. If you're going to shoot .357 out of a snubbie, it needs to have some mass to it.

"Ultralight" and "Magnum" is a masochistic combo.

When I go hunting this year I will have my little SP101 loaded with nuclear 125 grn FMJ's. I say nuclear because those rounds are rated at 1326 fps with 925 ft lbs of energy. They are not fun to shoot, even with the little Ruger being built like a tank, but if something is hunting me, I'm pretty sure that round will turn it inside out. ;)

In fairness to Mr. Harrell, if you watch the vid all the way to the end, he states clearly that he isn't saying one is 'better' than the other, or that one is more advisable to carry over the other, both of which involve a fair number of other variables besides sheer power. He's simply saying that the idea that a .357 loses so much power out of a short barrel that it's essentially the same as .38 simply isn't true. There may still be lots of good reasons to choose the latter over the former. ;)

Exactly! I watched it all the way through, maybe two years ago? He disproves the idea that a .38 from a short barrel is "just as powerful" as a .357 from a short barrel. Some of his comments about that kid making statements like that made me laugh. ;)

This commentary sort of harkens back to the 642 days.

Traveling and family matters keeping me occupied.

Ah, yes, The [SW] 642 Club (on a different channel). Must have been one of the longest running Internet forum threads in history. It would get so long that the admins had to cut it off and start a new thread to keep the servers happy. Last I was there, it was in the third version.

I think that forum took a ... different turn after that.

How's that Crimson Trace grip at handling recoil? Thinking about picking one up for my 3" SP101.
