    Hey y'all,

Hoping someone here can help me with my question.

I just bought a second-hand ESEE 4 that is stripped down to the steel. I'm a sucker for the ESEE logo laser engraving and you can imagine that stripping the knife makes it still visible but quite faded. I'd like to make it "pop-out" once more.

I've seen here people using PCB etchant (ferric chloride) on coated knives to have the etching dug in deeper in the exposed laser engraving while the rest of the covered area is protected by the coating which gives awesome results. My question is the following: Will using this solution on a stripped down knife work as well? Is the laser engraved section more sensitive to the etchant than the rest of the stripped steel making it "dig" more into the engraving or will the solution "attack" the stripped steel as much as the engraving making it even more faded out?

Am I making any sense? Do y'all get what I mean?

Anyhow, thanks so much I'm advance for your input on this.

    P-A

Without the coating as protection, the chemical solution will not be contained. In other words all the steel will be etched that contacts the blade.
