Hey I would like to buy a pocketknife for my soon to be father in law who lives in Belize. He doesn't care about name or anything, just that it isn't too big and fits in his pocket. Maybe try to stay in the $50 dollar range. I have a rat2 that I am taking for another guy down there. Any suggestions on what to look at?

Hard to go wrong with a Case slipjoint, maybe a Medium Stockman or Mini Trapper.
That is assuming he doesn't want a one hand open knife.

I would like something about the same size as the rat2, maybe even a little smaller.

Victorinox Farmer? Seems like everybody should have at least one.

    Zancudo
Both of these are within your budget - just depends what style of knife he would be interested in.

Grohmann Slimline, a handmade folder for $65USD

Or a Grohmann Mini Lockback on clearance for $33USD. The clearance knives are seconds, I've bought quite a few and the flaws were barely noticeable (if you call them they can pick one and describe the issue with it)

That's a nice looking knife. It says belt knife. Does it come with a belt sheath? Leather?

The sheath is extra for these two models . The "Belt Knife" written on the box I believe is a tag line referring to their signature knife model, the #1 "DH Russel Grohmann Belt Knife".

The Tenacious is really hard to beat for the money IMO. I wish they made a US-made version of it in something that holds an edge for a long time.

Do you have a problem with its edge retention? I feel like mine holds a great edge. It's my work beater and I barely ever have to sharpen it.
