Who here runs Osprey Packs? I use a Maxpedition Condor II for my range bag and have for ten years. I have a few 5.11 RUSH 12s floating around in vehicles etc for go bags. However, I am looking at a more dedicated day hike pack and overnight camping pack and ran across the Osprey Skarab 32.

Any suggestions, recommendations etc on the Osprey packs verses something like a 5.11 for my needs? I have never owned anything other than something with MOLLE for shooting, grab bags etc so this is my first "true" hiking bag I have looked at. At $120, it seems like a great back from what I am seeing.

I had a osprey stratus 26. Great bag. Traded it because I don't get out much right now. When I do start up again I'll be buying another.

For a true hiking pack the Osprey is it. It has the correct support. The tactical packs typically do not.

This. Tactical packs have their advantages for outdoor use. They are made of really good material that will withstand a lot of abuse, but that comes with a price.

For a day pack an osprey would be a far better choice imo, or any other hiking pack for that matter. I know this from experience. I was using my 5.11 covrt 18 for outdoor stuff and it was just so bulky and heavy and I'd end up bringing far more unneeded stuff as well, which added even more weight. I switched over to a gossamer gear minimalist 24 for my hiking day pack and it's served me well the few times I've used it.
