Following on from recent discussions about trauma training/kit and the use of tourniquets. 31st March is ‘National Stop The Bleed Day’. A day to focus on the kit and training we can easily obtain to save lives! https://www.stopthebleedday.org/ Have a look, see what you can do, spread the word!
Ain't that the truth! I had a 'let's check' moment earlier and realised I have 4 CAT tourniquets available at any one time - one in my work vest, day bag, range bag and in my waist pack. There's no excuse, they cost very little, take up no space and are easy to use, even on yourself!
not a single class in Canada. (i'd like a refresher). I can go to TRAUMA-TECH Locally, but their tactical GSW course is for police/EMT/Military only. (which i think is a bunch of ----------).....why should they get "exclusive" training? do they not realize that civilians might save their butt one day?
I ordered more tourniquets this past Saturday because the wife wanted me to put together a few hemorrhage kits for her and one other teacher across the hall from her. Of course I bought a few extras for me also. I used Skinny Medic’s YouTube videos as reference material for what to put in the teacher kits and how to add a few goodies in my truck and edc kits. Thinking about putting together a truck kit for my wife and a kit for the house. The school my wife works for had a trainer spend a day with them going over different items and the proper use of the items. My wife and I decided to mix in a couple of medical centric classes this year.
It's more than possible buddy, I teach trauma/GSW/catastrophic bleed training to civilian shooters in the UK. http://jackalfirearms.co.uk/training/ Find a local EMT and get him/her to impart some wisdom. It's all straight forward, hey if you were over here I'd put on a course for forum members! As long as you don't get into the complicated areas of medication and oxygen it's a doddle! Happy to help/advise if you do want to pull something together over there!
I approached local EMT's before but they are pretty unwilling to teach here.....ill probably just pay the $ (about 1500) to get my Level 2 (formally industrial ) first aid re-cert
Get yourself on the NSTBD18 website as per my OP, they have courses on there all over the US! Shame that with the EMT, it’s in their interest to skill local residents up.
