Anybody done the hiking trail on Mt Whitney? Not the mountaineering route but there is a regular hiking trail to the top I've heard.

Passes are assigned by lottery each year unless you're day hiking it. I would most definitely recommend hiking poles. Not for the way up, but for the way down. The steps are tall, so coming back down is hard on the knees.

I'm about 30 lbs lighter now than I was in this picture.

After talking to Reuben, I'm gonna pass on doing this one. Too many damn people.

It is like Disneyland crowded on the trails. The camp at 12,000 feet is like a sardines camp.
But the payoff is a cool view from the top of the USA!

Sounds more crowded than Pike's Peak in July!

I hiked Pike's twice while we were in Colorado Springs. Of course, I hiked up and got a ride down both times! Barr Camp has a nice hospitality tradition. They always have baked goods and hot coffee up there for to raise donations.
