I haven't decided if I am going to keep the fairing. I guess I will try it first. It's pretty heavy though, I don't know what brand it is. It says made in Canada. I assume the streamlined style front fender came from the same company. They definitely aren't original. Supposedly it just needs a fuel pump and everything put back together with new hoses and battery. The fuel tank has been cleaned, it just has some dirt in it now.
Out with the old and in with the new. Waiting on the mail lady with the new cylinder head. The timing guides were in bad shape and I stalled the engine at the top of a hill. I had to roll back down and bumped the engine backwards at some point and derailed the cam chain. This old bike was ragged out when I got it. Luckily the engine can use a lot of fourwheeler parts. I was able to find a wiseco high compression piston for one of the fourwheelers that interchanges. I got a pretty nice exhaust system that's been waiting in the box for 8 months. It should be interesting, the fourwheeler head that I'm waiting on has a different camshaft. It's a couple less peak horsepower, but should be stronger from the bottom through the midrange.
Look what followed me home last night. It's a 2002 just like my blue one. The little xt runs good, but it needs crank bearings. It also needs steering bearings. I jumped the ditch and the steering started locking up. That little bike is going to be fully restored before it's over.
Can I pick your brain about this beauty? Do you still have it? Do you have any regrets about it? Any mods that you deem as being absolutely necessary? If I get one, it would be a daily driver for me that I can just go have some fun with so off-road performance comes second to rideability on a short commute and smiles per gallon are far more important than general practicality.
