This is a popular place to fish. Or walk the dog. Or the kids. Or the old lady. A lot of the tags are missing, but here are a few I thought people might enjoy as a little bark leaf association along with some simple facts. It is really cool to use to teach the kids
All the black cherry in that cluster is dead. One may sprout a leaf but it is over for them.

This one is a bit dated. They use ash and maple and birch is making a run at the MLB baseball bat market as well. They used to use hickory and it is still allowed as well, just heavy. Maple made an appearance before it was "legal" which is the way of things in baseball.[IMG]

Yeah, it is really cool for the local kids. They do a lot of concerts and fireworks and "little kid carnival " type activities at the boat landing. There is a lot of "historical district" on that side of the river. Brick sidewalks. Brick buildings. Lots of building codes and buisness restrictions on what can and can not be. It keeps the "downtown" nicer than other populated places in the state. Nostalgic.

That was taking a walk with you. It's strange to the southerner that your pine bark does not look like pine...and locust is supposed to be some kick butt tough stuff. True?

That was a pretty small white pine. They are usually smooth when and where they are "green growth" towards the top or small or damaged.. The big ones do not look like that. That one may be stunted. I plan on hitting the actual woods with the kids tomorrow. I will get some pictures of some real white and red pines and some other stuff with some size on them. Locust is tough. Takes the weather. Doesn't rot easily.

I love those info signs. Really helpful and a ton more useful thanreading a book because that actual specimen is in front of you.
