Thanks! The patina's building up nice on it from use over the last two years. I'm really happy with the original TKC's for the 3, definitely a more hand filling grip for me.
Do you think one done that fine would light from a ferro rod spark? I've been working on mine, but I think I'm using bigger knives too often to get my feather sticks that awesome.
No idea. I like to scrape the bark off a cedar. Tons of them around the cabin. That stuff lights right up. I don't always get the best feathers, tbh. What kind of wood it is makes all the difference in the world. Straight grain woods are the best. Take your time with it, there's no hurry. Make your first cut, give the stick a slight twist, then make the next cut on the ridge you just created from your first cut. This stick was green too. Sometimes, if I know I'm going to make a fire later, I feather a green stick earlier in the day. It's way dry enough by that night.
