I like to think I'm starting to figure out a thing or two about leather stuff but this just boggles my nugget. Nice!

Since I know that you don't work at McD's I won't even ask...
Thanks. As I worked on that sheath it grew and grew. I love the style put out by Daniel Winkler knives and sheaths. This one was pointed in that direction; just a long way off.
Your carving is awesome! Love your style.

Would you like to super size that or.. err. whoops.
I'd kill to be able to play with leather stuff for a living, I'm so slow at it though I would personify 'starving artist'.
So, did you rivet the fringe work into the sheath base? I don't even know how to figure out what's going on in that sheath, it's awesome.

@Grog That is a standard leather sheath that is wrapped in rawhide. I formed the rawhide to that sheath. Then I sewed the sealskin and fringe to the front of the rawhide, also applying the rivets.
Next I sewed the rawhide over the regular sheath, adding the side fringe to that seam. The dye was added after final assembly.
Does that make sense? Maybe On my next trail sheath I will include pics of the construction.

I always make a pouch sheath for a knife without a guard, but that is just me.
A knife without a guard would need a deep finger choil for the strap to hold it in.

IMG_4002.JPG How about a sheath like this without the pouch? The knife is a tM Hunt Yuma. I'm not a big fan of the deep pouch sheaths and am looking for recommendations of something with good rentention that also allows a full grip.

Your yuma has a deep enough choil that either one should work.
Maybe @Strigidae will chime in with some expertise.

Should work fine in my opinion. Be careful of not cutting your retention strap. My own pouch sheaths i dont like them too deep either. Ill run the sheath up an inch or so.
