....I just spent a three day weekend up near where I grew up. I had to get my rifle over a chrono and a final zero in place (leave for New Zealand on Monday). Then I took myself for a few hunts. Put a fawn and hog on the ground (two shots about 10 seconds apart ) but mostly just sat back and watched the display natur eput on around me... And as I said.... real meaning to the term "Thunder Box" ...
Wow, amazing pics as always Andy, some real fireworks going on! Enjoy your NZ adventure, looking forward to hearing about it as it is probably one of the few overseas hunting expeditions that I can see myself being able to afford at some stage in the next few years. Good luck
Nice. I have got to hop in the Jeep and head out your way one of these days before I am too old to get around.

Thanks all, it was certainly an interesting weekend to be up in the bush. Back home my car and home suffered some hail damage while I was going "isn't nature" wonderful. My skylight is now will decorated with tape to hold it together till I get back from NZ. The verandah roof will need replacing but water through that is just on the concrete out front. Car is...well...refined but that is what insurance is for !!! Funny you mention snakes anrkst... yes, very common around that old hut. The last several years at least one and up to three Eastern Browns have met Mr Shovel or Mr 20ga there in the yard. At this time of year even stumbling out in the early hours for a pi$$ means a big light to clear the way. We speculate that during the drought the eagles played havoc with the Black Snakes as they stood out on the light brown surfaces and that has allowed the Brown's to breed up.
Eastern brown snakes, only the SECOND most venomous snake in the world, no biggie, right? That storm was crazy all right, hail stones like golf balls, my neighbours car looks like someone has taken to it with a hammer.
......so given we are relying on the "reliability" of a Jeep to get you here....... ..... thanks mate ! .... yes that's what my SV6 is looking like just now. I have just ordered a new one as the lease on this one has expired. Happy that it had not arrived as yet !!
Really cool pictures. I'm looking forward to the report/pics from the NZ pic. Australia and NZ are two places I would really like to visit.
Yes, it is rushing up fast now.....seems like only a month ago my mate suggested the trip (it is OVER a year) !!!
.....thanks mate...missed your post before I left... ! Got home last night and a bit worn out, had a great time in the bush, saw deer but didn't end up firing a shot. I will start up a thread as I get some of the pics edited. That was our ride into the bush taking a couple of fishermen into a different area before they came back out to drop us into our corner of the wilderness. We all got held up a few hours due to low cloud and rain etc.
