it's official - I hate shotguns

    I suspect there are situations where a shotgun is a great defensive firearm. I would probably like it for defense against four-legged antagonists in a rural setting. But a firearm is a tool and I've always figured it's best to use the one you're most proficient with.

    Pistol on the nightstand, shotty under the bed (for when I don't have contacts in). :)

    I can't remember if it was Clint Smith or Cooper but one of them used to say that a handgun's purpose is to allow you to fight your way to your long gun.

    Shotguns may require more skill or a different skill set to shoot, but nothing stops a determined attacker faster.
    No other round competes with energy/momentum delivered to target or consistantly stops a fight faster.

    Looking at all the police and self defense shooting statistics, by multiple different people - 12ga shotgun was highest % one shot stop in all studies, no exceptions.
