Welcome P'Skua. :) (Sorry, the full name is to many characters for tired hands after a day of thousands of keystrokes while editing.)

Your reference to wildlife surveys got my attention. I'm trained as an evolutionary ecologist with a LOT of field experience. (Biologically, mostly forests and deserts.) Now I'm mostly teaching independently (free lance) but still spend a lot of time in the wild, and trying to help teach others how to do it.

I'm curious: what kind of wildlife surveys and where? I mean, last time I checked, there weren't a lot of polar skua's in Kansas. Or do they come down there on vacation for some warmth and wheat? :)

Nah, not too many Polar Skuas out this way (I just spent a lot of time being really interested in seabirds in CA and ME.) The ones we get in the Midwest are usually blown off course by strong coastal storms, etc.

I work as an avian biologist for a consulting firm here in KS and have done most of my work around the Midwest and California. Most of the time I do bird work but I’ve done some different bat work and a few other species.

It’s great to see another person on here with an environmental background! It’s good to meet you. I’d like to do more work around some of the desert areas of the US, I’ve spent some time in AZ and really enjoyed it.

I did my dissertation work in central NM on a 250,000 acre wildlife refuge (Sevilleta), and now live in Maine.

Nice to meet you, too, and have yet another biology/ecology type here. We have several. We'll share tales. :)

    Hi All.
My name's Kevin, just signed up today. I've been using Esee knives for a couple of years now. When I'm not at the day job, I generally like to hike and fish. I'm also a newb GSAR volunteer. Looking forward to get into the discussion!

Welcome aboard Kevo... there is a certain level of crazy that is prevalent here but you do not need to scratch too deeply to find the world of useful information. I have found that if there is something specific (not just knives) you are wanting to know it is worth posting a question to this crowd...they are like Siri but without the creepy, yet somehow slightly sexy, voice.
    Cheers

    Andy

    Like this?

Yeah, I know, not sexy, but ... creepy. Like Siri.

Siri took over my OS. I didn't post this. She did. Or was it Hal?

I'm going to get some shuteye. Lemme know how this turns out.

    No....not for some of us.....

It's not about thinking outside the box..

It's about having a really big box to think in...
