So I have been looking at different truck cab camping options and have spotted a “Cab Hammock” there does not seem Do be a lot of info out there about them thou. So I was wondering if anyone had experience with one? Used one? Seen one? Specifically Interested in the feasibility of using one in a Toyota Tundra or similar sized vehicle...? So I found info on one company. They did a kickstarter and looks like it was successful but their website doesn’t look to promising. Links to a article the Kickstarter and website below. https://carhammock.com/ https://newatlas.com/carhammock-hammock-inside-vehicle/55047/ https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/17154978/car-hammock?ref=category_newest&ref=discovery
I posted a link to one hammock company I found in the original post. I also spotted something similar but a sleeping platform for inside your cab. https://www.notelusa.com/
I’ve seen the inflatable back seat air mattresses that fit the car. I’m 6’3”, anything that has to do with sleeping in a car usually results in restless night. I do occasionally sleep in the back of my truck with comfort.
Interesting but I think if I had to sleep in my truck or soccer mobile, I'd rather use a sleeping pad. Those setups look like they'd take a while to get out of. Outside of my truck, I'm a Bear Butt hammock fan.
One of my kids put it in her Jeep. She decided to build a teardrop trailer because the hammock was so uncomfortable for more then one night.
Hammocks work well in converted school buses and box trucks, although I prefer the DIY fold out cots that I'm seeing a lot of lately. In any kind of normal passenger vehicle a hammock seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth.
@Strigidae I am not sure I would but am interested in looking at my options. I have found the last couple years that for me to get in a good day outdoors or a “mission” like fossil or artifact hunting I have to drive most of the way to a location or part way so I can get a early start. IE I’m showing up late late normally and sleeping in my truck or car is my safest option. @jeeter That is why I’m also looking at the sleeping platform option I also posted. That way I can just toss down a sleep pad and blanket. @C99c Would love me a school bus with hammocks
why not fab something to your specs / vehicleusing marine grade plywood and some nice spar varnish....?
@Bushman5 I have considered this. I also have seen a couple of cots or litters trimmed down to fit . Biggest problem is my backseat fold up.. it the backseat came down it would be pretty easy to solve. Even with them folding up I have plenty of space just need to figure out how to make it work. Actually as I was typing this response a idea dawned on me. With my seats folding up I have to fight with this 3-4 inch drop for feet space. I might be able to cut a piece of plywood and brace it at that 3-4 in drop spot and have a nice flat surface. As the kiddos feet don’t even reach the floor and won’t for a while I could leave it in place sealed and painted nice. And seat flipped down for normal use. Add sleep pad and I would be good. To make this whole hammock search/ researching project funny. I just got a email today saying they are 25% of until Sunday but I have already moved on to the sleeping platform route
@Strigidae I have decided to custom fab one. Rough sketch below. Basically a solid platform resting on the back seat padded front and back sides. 2x "storage" "boxes" in the foot area that support the front. Size ends up being about 5'4" in length and 2'6" in width. If i sleep a little to a angle i can stretch out completely but as a side sleeper i dont really need the length.
I like the idea for an overnighter but with the amount of gear I carry I doubt it would work. I'd have to re-arrange gear in the vehicle and by the time I did that I can setup my small tent.
