The 2 older boys are learning about bacteria in school, so we got a Coliscan Easygel kit. Easy way to check for coliform bacteria. Let's get the obligatory knife pics out of the way first. BK16 with my German army alpine ruck. Very comfortable, and more than plenty of room for day hikes. Each side pouch holds a 1L Nalgene bottle. Woods. Oldest Male Child insisted on carrying my ruck. We took a water sample from under this bridge. Middle Male Child took a bottle in my Maxpedition 10x4. I've finally gotten through to them to take water everywhere. For a cold and overcast day, we saw a lot of wildlife. We counted 8 herons and some hawks. Sorry for the crappy pics; Olaf the Crib Midget kept getting really loud, so I couldn't get closer. Another heron ...and a beaver we've been trying to spot for a couple years now. Spot him if you can! We took 4 water samples during the day, and put them in petri dishes when we got home. A good time was had by all. Thanks for looking.
great photos! love all those leaves on the ground.....I see that photo and i want to build a debris shelter!
That was my thoughts as well. Olaf wasn't interested in it though. He was cold and ready to go home. Gotta keep the kiddos motivated.
LOL. That hasn't happened in 3 weeks when Olaf tried having a fart competition with his brothers. The look on his face was priceless, and he learned that farts don't run down your leg. On a serious (for once) note, I'm hoping to check the petri dishes tonight, and use it as a lesson to show the boys why we treat water prior to drinking it.
