So in October I’m planning a pig roast. This is finally making me want to buy a cleaver. So the cleaver or the libertariat? Why is one $50 and the other $150? Thanks
Libertariat. Thinner spine, longer blade. Go watch a bunch of cooking vids of old Asian women doing the serious whoop a** with a blade that closely resembles it. Jeff has boo coo tons of money, he's always on vacation somewhere. Expat needs $$ to get the those tats lasered off his face. Plus, unless you live in Bushman5's ao, you need a machete more than an axe.
The cleaver is a large hunk of steel and made in America. The Libertariat is also a big chunk of steel, but it's made in El Salvador. That's probably a large portion of the price difference. You'll be happy with either one, I have both and I love both of them.
@BlueDogScout The cleaver is made in Idaho at the Rowen plant and the libertariat is made in Elsalvdor. That is the only thing I can think that makes it themat much different in price. I think if the Rowen’s made the Libertariat then it would cost along the same as the cleaver. As for the pig, I have used both to work on a pig and while the libertariat works great on a pig the cleaver was just made for it. If you want to play with a libertariat I’ll send you mine to play with to see if you like it.
I was wanting the cleaver first anyway but I might take you up on trying the libertariat. Lol I’m excited for the pig! Planning my pit and gonna build it this month. If you’re in southern Illinois the end of October you can join
I've no experience with the cleaver, but put a lanyard on the libertariat so you can choke up toward the tip and you'll be amazed what you can do with it after you bring the length along your arm.
Sorry I haven’t responded. I’ve been busy catching sharks off the Golden Isles. The price difference is made in America vs made in the banana republics. Also, Shon does a much better job with fit and finish than 8 year old el Salvadorans. There is also the matter of the sheath and G10, which both cost a lot more than the respective libertariat materials. Also more steel equals more money. As far as the pig roast specific use is concerned, I think it is a matter of whether bone is involved. Are you chopping through a rack of ribs or a skull? The cleaver will do better. Are you just chopping meat? Buy a libertariat for each hand a a huge cutting board and make an impressive scene! Whatever you go with, post some pics and videos here for us all to look at.
Thanks expat! There will be bone involved. I’ll be bringing the pig home and keeping it until the day before where I’ll kill it and drain it then roast and chop. I think I’ll do the cleaver. I’ll post pics but the roast is for Halloween. You’re welcome to join!
@BlueDogScout I haven't been using my cleaver or libertariat much lately, so you would be welcome to borrow one or both for your roast to see what you like more.
@Expat everyone except me makes money on him borrowing them. If he likes my cleaver especially, since it has @SEMO scales and @Allen Morrison kydex
