I have shot a lot of .410. It is great fun at skeet and I have hunted doves with it. I suppose it is ok for a kid to shoot stationary targets but it is very inefficient for shooting flying game. The bore is too small for even 1/2 of shot. At the risk of digression, If one wanted something other than a lever action they would be much better served with a 28 gauge, especially a youth.
Got my eye on the 20ga single shot for a lightweight turkey getter. I just wish it was d & t'd for a rail. Have to get that done so I can slap a red dot on it. I have a Big Boy Steel in 357 that I love. Beautiful wood and great fit and finish.
